Hi there! I'm 17, and I love animals, art, and science. I will generally answer questions about guinea pigs, hamsters, freshwater fish, cats, and visual art, because those are the topics I'm most familiar with. I've been keeping fish for a long time, although I recently stopped, but I still love reading up on fishkeeping, and I love the hobby in general. However, I don't know much about salt water fishkeeping. I've also kept dwarf hamsters for a bit, and know quite a bit about both dwarfs and syrians. Currently, I own a cat (Precious), and a guinea pig (Chester), and love them both to pieces! Visual art is my other hobby, I've used many mediums, I especially love digital art, charcoal, graphite, and oil paint but am familiar with using watercolors, oil pastel, acrylic paint, and inks.

  • How to follow this knitting pattern?

I'm a beginner knitter, and I found a pattern in a book that I wanted to try, but I'm not sure how to follow a few of the instructions. Here's what it says:

    "Note: slip stitches purlwise throughout.

Cast on 42 stitches. Work K2, P2 rib for 5 rows, slipping the first stitch of each row.

With RS facing, begin Rib Pattern. Work until 15 rows are complete.

Rib Pattern (this is on the side of the page)

    Row 1: Slip 1, P3, *K2, P6; repeat from * to last 6 stitches, K2, P4.

Row 2: Slip 1, knit the knits and purl the purls.

    Row 3: Repeat Row 2.

    Row 4: Slip 1, P1, *K6, P2; repeat from *.

    Row 5: Repeat Row 2.

    Row 6: Repeat Row 2.

    Repeat rows 1-6 for pattern.

(the next part was right under the beginning instructions)

    Increase Row (wrong side): Sl1, P1, *K1, M1, K4, M1, K1, P2; repeat from *. You now have 52 stitches.

    Row 1: Slip 1, K1, *P8, K2; repeat from *.

Row 2: Slip 1, knit the knits and purl the purls.

    Row 3: Slip 1, P4, *K2, P8; repeat from * to last 7 stitches. K2, P5.

    Rows 4 and 5: Repeat row 2.

    Row 6: Sl 1, P1, *K8, P2; repeat from *.

    Rows 7-11: Repeat rows 1-5."

My first question is, how do I tell if I have the right side facing to begin the rib pattern?

Also, when it says "work until 15 rows are completed" does that include the 5 rows of the K2, P2 rib, or should I just do 15 rows of the rib pattern?

  • Can I use a blender instead of a food processor?

I want to make this recipe:

    http://tideandthyme.com/?p=831

Which calls for a food processor to make a cheesecake mix as well as an oreo crust. Can I use a blender for this, or is there some other method I can use instead of a food processor? Thanks!

  • Bitten by a red eared slider, is seeing a doctor recommended?

Today, my brother got a red eared slider from his friend.

When putting the turtle back in the tank, it bit his hand and wouldn't let go for about 5 minutes.

It broke the skin a little, and obviously he washed his hands with water & soap, but should he see a doctor?

Also, if the turtle does bit again in the future, is there some way to make them let go or do we just have to wait until it decides to let go?

    Thanks for any help.

  • How would I go about making a furry raccoon's tail?

I'd like to make a raccoon costume for Halloween, but I can't think of any ways to make the tail. I want to make a furry, gray and black striped tail, just like a raccoon's. I don't want to spend money and buy one, besides, I'm not sure where to find a raccoon tail, so how could I make one?

  • Hamster with overgrown claws?

My dwarf hamster has overgrown claws. They don't tear or bleed, but they're still fairly long. It's mainly on 2 of the claws on her front paws. I tried trimming them, but she just squirms too much, there's absolutely no way to keep her still. And I can't bring her to the vet's because my parents won't let me. Is there any other way to trim her claws down without hurting her?

  • Ideas for fun stuff to do?

    Hello,

me and my friends are going to some 24 hour event thing, and we don't have much to do..

we're gonna bring our DS's and just talk, but other than that, we don't have any other ideas.

What can you think of that we could do?

Nothing like board games because they're too time consuming to set up and kinda messy (we're gonna be on air mattresses so it's not gonna be a completely flat surface), also, some of my friends get kinda bored with card games so that's out unless you can think of a really fun one, thanks!

  • Help with using oil pastels please?

We're doing an art project at school and I'd just like to know of any techniques/tricks you guys use with oil pastels.

  • If you own any pets please look here!?

    Hey, thanks for looking :)

I'm making a speech at school, and my speech is about a raw food diet for animals. Well, mainly it's about a raw food diet for cats and dogs.

I'd just like to hear from real people if you have ever (or do) own any cats or dogs. Please don't post all your pets just cats or dogs. Also,

Have you ever considered feeding your pets a raw food diet?

Are you against feeding your pets a raw food diet?

Do you know what a raw food diet is?

Thank you for answering any of my questions, and any extra input of what you think of a raw food diet for a cat or dog.

If you do feed your cat or dog a raw food diet have you noticed any changes in your pet since you started feeding a raw food diet? and What would you recommend to someone that would like to start feeding a raw food diet?

    Thank you!

  • Just a question about being a vet!?

Hi. I know it seems weird to ask this since I'm still young but, I really want to be a vet, I love science and animals, as well as medicine.

I'm just wondering if there's anything early on I can do to prepare myself for this. If there's any specific courses I should take in high school and things like that. Thanks for any help!

  • New dwarf hamsters!!

I just got 2 dwarf hamsters and they are just adorable <3, I'm still thinking about names, but I did get argente hamsters (I think... they have ruby red eyes, a creamy color on their back and a white belly) They have already eaten, made a nest, and exercised on their wheel ... Their water bottle drips though so I'm getting them a new one. Also, is it normal for them to dig so much? I use carefresh bedding and toilet paper strips for nesting material. Whenever they walk anywhere, they dig their way there, they try to get under everything... will this stop after a while or will they keep doing this?

  • I'd like to hear some hamster names :)

Hey there, I'm getting a hamster most likely today, I have come up with 2 pages worth of names, I think some of my best choices were Toby and Bloo for males, Malibu for either, or Amber for a girl. I'd like to hear some really original, cute-ish names, I'm probably getting a dwarf, so think of brownish body, but I'll really like to hear any names. Please, just original names, not like fluffy, or snow... thank you, best name=10 points :)

  • Please help with food/cage choices (hamster)

I'm getting a hamsters, but I need a little help on a couple of things. First of all, I'd like to get dwarf hamsters because they can stay in small groups, unlike Syrians, that will fight, but if I can't find any, then I'll get a Syrian. Anyways, I'm a little confused about which cage to get, I found 2 cages that I really like, and they're not too expensive. Here they are:

    http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productI...

    http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productI...

but, I don't know which of the 2 to pick. And I also like this cage, especially if I'm getting dwarfs, but it's a little more expensive:

    http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productI...

Then there's these 2, they're cheaper, but they don't have tubes like the Crittertrail cages, and the second one seems a bit small:

    http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productI...

Lastly, I'd like to know what food is best out of these 3, the first one looks good, since the other 2 are mostly seed and grain, and I read too much of these will make the hamster fat...

  • Egg Drop Project?

    Hi,

I'm doing an egg drop project at school and would like to know if anyone has any ideas. Here are the requirements:

-It has to hold an egg in, and I have to remove the egg and place it back inside in front of the class.

-The egg inside has to "survive" a 2 meter drop.

-The object I'm using has to weigh less than 500 grams.

-The materials I'm using need to be recycled materials. This does not include anything we're using to decorate it (paint, markers, etc)

-The object I'm using shuold be decorated/creative. We get extra marks for creativity.

    Any answer appreciated!!
