Fisherman
I am a retired radio and fiber optics engineer. My wife and I live near Dallas, TX. I enjoy fishing, photography, travel and ham radio. I've been a ham since 1958 and I'm still quite active on the radio and have a rather large ham radio station at my home. 335 DX confirmed. My wife and I have done a lot of travelling since we retired. This old nomad has now been to over 60 countries. I have also fished in many places around the world including the Amazon for Peacock Bass, Argentina for golden Dorado, Africa for Tigerfish, Alaska for leopard Rainbows, New Zealand for trout, Bahamas for Bonefish, Canada for Northerns, Walleye and Muskies, and of course all around the USA mainly for trout. I favor fly fishing for trout, but any type of fishing is OK. I enjoy photography while on our trips. Use a Nikon D100 and/or a D75 with Tamron 28 - 300 and 200 - 500 lenses. I have some fab pics taken on our travels especially in Africa. 4 daughters, 3 grandchildren.
Is a construction worker in the street from a job site (not road work) to manage traffic vested with the legal authority to do so?
Is a private construction worker vested with any legal authority to stop and control traffic? For instance, a construction worker in jeans and a T-shirt steps into the street from a private construction site (not road construction) and stops traffic to allow a truck to maneuver onto the roadway. Is the construction worker vested with any legal authority to control the traffic? Is the traffic legally obliged to obey him? BTW the construction guy is not a flagman. Suppose the truck messes up repeatedly while maneuvering and the traffic becomes impatient, ignores the construction worker and carefully moves past him. Have they broken any law?
Similarly, my son does the same so I can maneuver my boat onto the roadway. Is he vested with any authority to control traffic? Is the traffic legally obliged to obey him or is it just a courtesy?
I asked this some while ago but did not get a good answer. Of course the "rules of courtesy" apply, but I am not asking about courtesy. I am asking about the LAW.
1 AnswerLaw & Ethics7 years agoCould the western states challenge the US ownership of their land?
When most of the western states in the USA were admitted to the union they apparently had to agree to include a clause in their state constitutions giving the US government ownership of the unclaimed land inside their state borders. States admitted before the US government began requiring this clause did not have to abide by this requirement. In your opinion could the attorneys general of the western states say that this clause was coercive, not equally applied as states were admitted to the union, cite the 10th amendment and and further say that henceforth the Feds no longer own the land? Could the governors do something similar? This assumes that their legislatures would go along with the notion. Just posing the question for discussion.
3 AnswersLaw & Ethics7 years agoWhat provision of the Constitution allows the Federal Government to "own" land in any state? Also, what provision makes the BLM legal?
The Rancher in Nevada contends that the Federal Government does not own or have the right to control the lands on which he grazes his cattle. He contends that the land is solely under the control of the state of Nevada. Constitutionally, is he correct or not. If not, then which provision of the Constitution gives the Federal Government the right to "own" land in any state? Similarly, what provision of the Constitution enables the BLM or is it another unconstitutional Federal Government department like the EPA, OSHA, the Dept. of Education, etc. that was created by a President but are not authorized in the Constitution.

My son does the same so I can maneuver my boat onto the roadway. Is he similarly vested with any authority to control traffic? Is the traffic legally obliged to obey him or is it just a courtesy?
6 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoAre the traffic signs at the mall enforceable by the local police?
Our local mall has a ring road around it. It is all on the private property of the mall. The road has stop signs and speed limit signs. The shape and size of these signs are not the same as on the city streets. Can the local police actually enforce the stop signs and speed limits on the private property of the mall? Do they even try? I've always wondered about this because the signs are so obviously different than those on the city streets.
5 AnswersLaw Enforcement & Police1 decade agoDo construction workers have the force of law when directing traffic?
A building is being constructed on my way to work. Frequently a construction worker will walk out into the street and stop traffic while they maneuver a cement truck or other truck to/from the work site. Sometimes they hold up traffic for a fairly long time while they jockey a truck often making me and others late for work.
Are these guys vested with the force of law when they do this? Do drivers have to obey them? Suppose a car honks and works his way through. Has he broken any laws?
5 AnswersLaw Enforcement & Police1 decade agoCO2 cartridge for PFD?
I have two CO2 operated PFDs. One takes a 24 gram CO2 cartridge; the other, a 25 gram CO2 cartridge. I have two extra 25 gram cartridges. Can I use a 25 gram cartridge in the 24 gram PFD without causing it to burst? The engineer in me says that 4.2% more CO2 can't be an issue for the PFD, but maybe it is? I dunno for sure. Are any of you guys experts on PFDs?
3 AnswersFishing1 decade agoGround fault interrupter keeps tripping.?
I wired some outlets in my tractor shed for use whith a small generator when I need some lights. Works just fine with my little Honda generator. But when I run 3 long extension cords (about 100 ft each) from my detached shop/garage so I can run the shop vac in the shed the GFI trips every time I plug in the extension cords. This happens even when there is nothing connected to the outlets in the tractor shed; no lights, no vac, nothing connected. What is the GFI telling me? Bad extension cord(s)? Bad wiring in the shed? Is the GFI in a detached garage per code? Can I take the d**n thing out?
6 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)1 decade agoDo you always give an honest answer to political pollsters?
If you were asked by a pollster if you plan to vote for McCain or Obama would you give an honest answer? Do you think most people who give an answer to a pollster give an honest answer?
4 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoTo what degree is water compressible? Does the density of water change with depth? By how much?
I was taught that water is incompressible and that its density does not change with depth. Is this true? Is the density of water at the bottom of the Marianas trench (10920 meters deep) significantly different than that at the surface? I am asking specifically about water in the liquid state, not ice or water vapor.
8 AnswersEarth Sciences & Geology1 decade agoMy Nikon D70 focuses my Tamron model A061 28-300 mm lens but won't take the photo. What's going on?
My D70 drives and focuses my Tamron model A061 AF 28-300 mm lens just fine, but will not take the photo when zoomed beyond 28 mm unless I push the AE-L/AF-L focus button. Then it will take the photo. I normally run it in the "P" (program) position, not in the "Auto" position. What is going on and how do I get the camera to take the picture without having to push the AE-L/AF-L button? Do I need to update the software?
3 AnswersCameras1 decade agoCalling all Ichthyologists. I was told that tigerfish exude an anticoagulant onto their teeth. Is this true?
The guides in Africa told me that as part of its feeding strategy the tigerfish exudes an anticoagulant onto its teeth so that if you get nipped or bitten you will bleed and bleed. Is this true or were they were putting-me-on? If it is true do other fish use this strategy too?
2 AnswersFishing1 decade agoAre there still any states that require a social security number to buy a fishing license?
What happens if you "accidently" make an error entering your SS number? Does the system match the name and SS number and deny a license if there is no match?
What if you are not from the US and do not have an SS number? For instance can I become a Canadian to buy an out of state fishing license without compromising my SS number?
Are you committing identity theft if you "accidently" and unknowingly enter someone else's SS number on a fishing license application?
Do the convicts in your state prison system have access to your SS number after you buy a fishing license and your SS number then becomes part of your state's public record?
If your driver's license number is your SS number or tied to it does it make your SS number part of the public record and therefore accessible to the public when you buy a fishing license?
Please tell me/us what you know about the SS number issues in your state when I/we buy a fishing license in your state. Am I compromising my SS number?
