Is my antique clothes iron compatible with the outlet?
I have a Westinghouse antique clothes iron made before WW2. It's 120 volts, 550 watts the plug and cloth cord appear to be in good shape. I'm wondering if it's safe to plug it into my outlet and use it. I don't want the shock of my life and all I really understand about electricity is that I can't live without it and it'll hurt you if you mess around with it.
1 AnswerCleaning & Laundry9 years agoGeneral Chang's character from Star Trek 6?
In a novel I'm thinking about doing, I want to base my character off of General Chang (the one-eyed Klingon from Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country). He's my favorite villain character of the series. How would you describe him?
2 AnswersMovies10 years agoWhy don't men read books?
I have yet to find a man who likes to read as much as I do, (other than my father) or who owns as many books as I do (besides Dad). It seems that young men under the age of 40 don't read unless it's by force (i.e. School textbooks) or they read comic books or other print with pictures.
My last ex-boyfriend had one book. He told me he didn't like to read. I myself have over 300 books of various subjects and I love to read.
Has this been your experience? What are your two cents?
11 AnswersBooks & Authors10 years agoMay I cry on your virtual shoulder? That would really help me.?
My grandmother has been hit with a stroke recently (she's 93) and my mother has gone to help her leaving myself, my sister and niece, and my dad here in town. My grandmother lives seven hours and 300+ miles away.
This is not an easy time for my family and my recent phone call with my sister has not made it any easier at all. I got to talking with her, and she told me that her neice wanted to spend the night at grandma's house and my sister said 'fine'. So now my Dad who is on the cusp of losing his step-mother is having to babysit a very active three year old toddler alone. If I were my sister I would not have done this. Regardless of the age factor; mid-sixties vs mid-thirties, if Dad got a call that he had to leave in the middle of the night, he can't do that now because he's watching the baby. My sister should have told her daughter that grandma's wasn't available that night and gone to bed. The way she said it was so blase I couldn't believe it.
If that was the only part of the phone call, I could handle it, but it wasn't. My sister thinks that if Mom needs help, she's the next one to go. I told her, "you can't, you have your daughter to take care of." Her reply was, 'I'll just take her with me." Sure. You cannot take this kid to the store without having a red-alert style melt-down that can be heard all over the store. And outside of it too. I mentioned that to her and my sister said 'well she did just fine when she was nine months old.' Nine months compared to three years are two totally different worlds. And when that trip was done (when the baby was nine months old) my sister didn't even drive, she went with our mother! Neither one of us have driven that route before even though we've ridden it multiple times, there's still a great difference between riding and driving.
What really left me speechless was when I found out that Mom paid grandma a visit in the hospital and the visit has upset her greatly. To what extent I don't know because I haven't talked to Mom today. I mentioned that to my sister and she said 'why would that upset her?" Oh gee. Maybe it's because we've known this person for over forty years and it's near the end of their life? Mom just went through this same senario with her own mother three years ago so maybe she's having some flashbacks?
I am feeling (overwhelmed, confused, upset, blindsided, had-the-rug-jerked-out-from-under-me) that my sister has her emotions so far up her a$$ that she is pretty much useless. What my parents don't need right now is a toddler underfoot when the mother is so close and is capable of taking care of her but refuses to because 'she has a life'.
The one person I thought I could count on to rely on and look up to for guidance in this world can't even read a map. I feel so alone in this and it's impossible to talk to her about it as well. Everything is about her and she's the only one who matters. Reckon it's best I learn about this now instead of later, eh?
If you've read through this, you are a saint and I thank you.
3 AnswersFamily10 years agoIs there bus service in Hutchinson, KS?
I'm planning a trip to go by train from Seattle, WA to Hutchinson, KS to see their space center. Is there a bus system around that city? I've tried to find out on the web without luck and Google earth isn't helping me either.
If you are from Hutchinson, KS; what would you tell a tourist what not to miss?
P.S. If you visit Seattle, you cannot miss Pike Place Market. Salmon is awesome, and tasty. :)
1 AnswerOther - Cars & Transportation10 years agomax trailer tow length for Bronco?
I'm in the market to get a recreational travel trailer. I have decided to get a 'lite' trailer to save on gas and my engine.
My towing vehicle is a '94 Ford Bronco, 351 engine with 4x4. The tire is mounted on the back of the tailgate, will I have to get a tounge extension? I'm concerned with the short wheel base of getting something that will make the Bronco even more squirrely.
If you drive a Bronco, what have you towed behind it?

12 AnswersReligion & Spirituality10 years agoIf I kill the electricity to my gas oven, will I have a gas leak?
My gas oven is a Maytag CHG9800aab and the electronic display will flash F-1 and beep. I've heard that this is due to a malfunction in the computer motherboard of the display. So I have gone to the electrical panel and killed the power to my oven. Only since it is gas, does killing the power to it disrupt the gas in any way? Last thing I need is a leak.
3 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs10 years agoGuys, define for me a 'quality girl', please. Girls, vice versa.?
I've heard plenty of guys say they want a quality girl. Please give me 5 things that makes a girl 'quality'.
And if you're a girl reading this, give me 5 things that makes a guy quality.
If you go over the five, that's cool. If not, that's okay too.
1 AnswerSingles & Dating10 years agoFriends with benefits. Huh?
I've been hearing this 'friends with benefits' thing...and I don't think I'm clear on the benefits part.
To me: the benefits would be...
1. Friend has a job and can pay their own way.
2. Friend has a car so you don't have to pick them up at their place and play chauffeur.
3. Friend actually has some interests and wants to do them with you so you don't have to play the activity director.
4. Friend has an iq higher than my pet rock which means we have some fun conversations.
Anything more intimate than that and wouldn't they be the boyfriend/girlfriend?
9 AnswersFriends10 years ago(eventually) truck and camper first-timer. HELP!?
Hi,
I have a goal to purchase a pick-up truck with the intent of sliding a camper in the bed of the truck. This will become my recreational vehicle (also a back up ride incase my current vehicle goes belly up). I plan to buy this in five years after getting enough money together to afford it.
My dream truck would be: a 4x4 diesel crew-cab dually and the camper must have a toilet. Clearly I have thought more about the truck than I have about the camper. I'm open to Fords, Chevy, or GMC and between the years of 1975-2005. In five years the 2005 models will be eleven years old and by then I'll probably be able to afford them. Time will tell.
If you have a truck and camper combo, could you tell me some of the things that you wish you knew before hand? Or what you would have done differently if you had known what you know now.
Are there books or websites that could stear me in the right direction. (Last thing I want to do is get a rig together that just screams 'greenhorn').
Thanks for reading. I'd love to read your two cents.
2 AnswersOther - Cars & Transportation1 decade agoThere is a freckle on the sole of my foot?
On the bottom of my left foot I have a dark little freckle and it's been there all my life (I'm 30). On the soles of the feet there aren't supposed to be any pigmentation. A co-worker said that it could be skin cancer. It's 1.5 mm wide and has very regular edges and I've kept my eye on it and it hasn't changed shape or become painful. It's been with me for so long I seriously doubt that it's skin cancer (knock on wood.)
Does anyone else have a freckle on the soles of their feet/hands or anything like that?
