Yes, I want to ADD cracks in lumber. Not enough to make it in danger of falling apart, but enough to give it character. Specifically, I'm looking around right now for a solid (12' x 12' x 24') block of wood that I'll turn into end table-type thing.

Also, I only want to create cracks while the wood is still unfinished, not after I've painted it.

Are there particular species that tend to crack more? Should I order untreated wood? Is that even possible?

I'm thinking I should submerge the wood overnight, and then put it in a warm room for a few days until it dries out. Do you think that would work?

As an American, I'm not really clear on what distinguishes Labour from the Liberal Democrats. Both parties are center-left (or centre-left as you crazy Brits prefer), yes?

I know that the Lib Dems were against the war in Iraq, but are there other main differences between the parties' ideologies? And if they're so similar, why are they forming a coalition with the right-wing party?

My left eye has been itching for a couple days, nothing too uncomfortable. Today, I lifted back the eyelid and noticed a white dot on the underside, closer to the center of my face.

It almost looks like it could be a stye, but as I understand them, styes appear at the base of one's eyelashes.

I live in an uninsulated wood house and we're looking for low-impact insulation options. My landlord claims that spray-in foam insulation would be basically worthless, but I'm not convinced. Surely it will cut down on heating costs somewhat, right?
