I'm retired from the full time day gig but still play guitar on occasional weekends: classic rock, blues, pop and a bit of country. If you didn't notice from my posts I am societally and politically conservative. Capitalism and profit are not evils. The profit motive and pursuit of individual achievement made America great. Meddling by governmet creates more problems than it fixes.

  • Is anyone else tired of the Rock's appearances just to do a stand-up comedy routine?

The Rock comes on. takes thirty seconds to challenge his upcoming opponent and then launches into a bad comedy bit. How long has it been since he actually wrestled outside of a pay-per-view? He's not giving much of anything to his fans besides his presence.

  • Do you get tired of wrestling moves that obviously take co-operation from an opponent?

Like the five knuckle shuffle, guys have to lay on their backs for about 15 seconds while Cena bounces back and forth off the ropes. Ot the 619 when a guy conveniently falls with his arms draped on the middle rope waiting for Mysterio. Or when somebody fakes like getting hit sends him somersaulting backwards over the top rope.

Yeah, it's a show but make it look a little bit real. PLEASE!

  • Bronson Arroyo the homer machine?

Cincinnati pitcher has been pretty successful this season, rebounding from a bad 2011 when he was weakened by mono. But he still has given up a home run every start this year, often the only runs the other team gets. Will he EVER pitch and not throw a gopher ball again?

  • Multiple sports championships?

I was reading about Otto Graham, the hall of fame quarterback of the old Cleveland Browns. In his 10 years as the Browns' QB the team played in the league championship every year, winning seven leagie titles. He also played one season for the Rochester Royals, the team that eventually moved to Sacramento to become the Kings of the NBA. The year he played for that team they won the league championship, too! Does anyone know of another player who was on championship teams in more than one major pro sport?

  • Please explain why the numbers on F1 cars are so small?

Why on earth is it easier to figure out who's driving a Formula one car by the paint job and the color of the driver's helmet? A casual fan has no idea that way. You need a chart of the livery plus what helmet is on who. Wouldn't numbers that are easily visible at a distance like EVERY OTHER racing series be simpler? Was this Bernie Ecclestone's idea of showing F1 superiority or what?

  • Ash guitar necks, why are there none?

Here's a question I have never heard an answer for: why don't they make guitar necks out of ash? Not the southern swamp ash like some premium Fender bodies are made of but northern hard ash, the stuff they make ax handles and baseball bats from. It is nice and stiff and durable. It has to be stiffer than mahogany or korina and if selected well the grain runs straight. It would seem to be a good alternative to maple to me. Any luthiers out there with a good reason...

  • Hallmark guitars, does anyone have any personal experience?

This brand sells clones of the original Mosrite brand from the 1960s as played by the Ventures. Jim Hall evidently was an associate of Semie Mosely. Their stuff is fairly expensive and I think is imported, otherwise they would say made in USA on their website. But they are around $2000 less that the Mosrites that are made and sold by Ed Roman Guitars in Las Vegas. I have played original Mosrites and they are unique, but who has three grand for a guitar to gig with? Are Hallmarks made as well as a USA Fender? I know the details are quirky but then the tone of the originals is very unique, really bright but not as twangy as a telecaster.

  • Do you agree that Dario got hosed?

Dario Franchitti complained about the draw for starting positions in the second race in the Twin 275s at Texas Speedway. He did that BEFORE the draw happened saying it was unfair to have a completely random starting lineup for a points paying race. NASCAR has a couple races that have draws for the starting grid, but those races do not count in the championship. Will Power got a good spot and went on to win his first ever oval race while Dario started in the back and never got to the front.

Dario said that the only fair way to mix up the starting grid would be to invert the field, run the second heat in reverse order of the first, which would give the same relative advantage or disadvantage to everybody

After the second race Will has a 5 point lead on Dario. Is Franchitti righteously ticked off or was the draw for position fair?

  • Did anybody hear the sound?

...of the Chip Ganassi crew member who didn't put enough fuel in Dario Franchitti's car for qualifying, thus costing him a front row sopt, getting his BUTT KICKED by Chip? Make an error that way doing some other check on the car's condition (like say, installing a fastener holding on a steering part) could get a guy killed!

  • Mickey Thompson front drive racer?

I know this is ancient history but I have been trying to find and information and hopefully pictures of the last race car the late Mickey Thompson entered in the Indy 500. It had a stock block Chevrolet engine with specially made overhead cam heads, was front engine front drive. I believe the main chassis member was a very large diameter tube that had all the suspension components grafted onto it.

Mickey tried a lot of unconventional ideas and the rule makers eventually make most of them illegal.

He was first in open wheel racing to use slicks. That was so obviously better that pavement cars in open wheel were using slicks in every series within a year or so. His idea for 12 inch wheels to lower drag (shorter tire height) was outlawed. Those were on his extra wide rear engine cars the first year he ran them. And his Chevy stock block/racing head engine was also outlawed the following year. Thompson got disgusted and quit trying to innovate, quit building Indy cars.

Anyhow, does anybody know where I can find data or pictures on this oddball car? It didn't handle for squat but it went like stink down the straightaways. Nothing on Yahoo or Google search seems to work and I don't think the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has any photos.

  • Did Pirelli blunder into brilliance?

The tires Pirelli supply F1 don't put down any rubber onto the track; they just wear off into tons of marbles, and they seem to wear to a certain point where all the grip just goes away, although there does not seem to be actual tire failure from big chunks of tread coming off worn tires. All that said, now that the teams have figured out how they work there is actual competition on the race track, something that has been sorely missing for years. From the way the bosses at Pirelli Tire acted at the earlier races do you think this was all on purpose or a happy accident?

  • Why does NASCAR promote the safer barrier as theirs?

The safer barrier was first developed in 1998 and installed at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It was developed at the University of Nebraska with funding from Tony George and the IRL. This is never acknowledged. When Dale Sr had his fatal crash Safer walls were already installed at IMS. It's great that those walls are everywhere these days, but NASCAR's involvement consists of buying a technology that was developed elsewhere!
