  • In the NBA, are timeouts charged to teams whether they want to take one or not?

Example: I'll be watching a game and it seems like one team hardly calls timeouts. Yet, at the end of the game, suddenly they only have two timeouts left. I'm aware of the "tv timeout" and also mid-quarter timeouts, but I always thought those were just official timeouts. Are those tv timeouts and mid-quarter timeouts charged to teams? If so, that seems ridiculously unfair, and also, how do they decide which team must get charged the time out?

  • Why can't I get some digital channels?

I'm just using regular over the air broadcasting. I have two TVs; a Sony & a Sharp. The Sony downstairs gets weird channels like 26.2 but when I try the same channel on the Sharp upstairs, it doesn't work and I get no signal. Why is this and what can I do to be able to get the same channels upstairs AND downstairs?

  • Why are there no Subway sandwich restaurants with drivethrus in Los Angeles?

I lived in Minnesota for several years and noticed there were Subways damn near every other corner. And some of them had drivethrus. So I come back to Los Angeles and see plenty of Subways here, too but notice that NONE of them have drivethrus. Why???

  • why do NHL coaches move around so much?

I was curious about the list of Stanley Cup champions. The list also included coaches and that's when I noticed a lot of the coaches were on different teams. I also noticed that some coaches who made the finals one year, were not the coach when the team returned to the finals either the following year or maybe just two or three years later. And not just Stanley Cup finalists teams for that matter. I see it happen all the time in the NHL. It seems like more than any other major team sport, it's a revolving door of coaches! Why?

  • Are the planetary orbits proportional to each other?

We know that gravity is not really a force per se, and in regards to celestial bodies, gravity is really just the shortest path between two objects. Obviously the closer a planet is to a star, the faster its orbit. But when you look at an animation of our own solar system, all the orbit speeds seem to be totally different. Mercury seems to zip by while the outer planets move along at a snail's pace. That's how they appear. They don't appear to all move proportional to each other. So my question is, are all the orbits in proportion to each other. If Mercury takes 88 days at its present orbit, if it were to be moved to Earth's position, would it orbit every 365 days instead? And vice versa and so on.

The reason I ask is because if gravity is the same everywhere, then the orbits SHOULD be proportional, right? You have a common denominator (gravity) and the only difference is distance. I'm sure size plays a role, too but right now can we get answer with just speed and distance as variables?

  • How does one go about getting tested for food allergies?

Do I make a doctor's appointment or is there a service out there that does that? I don't want to have to spend the money for a doctor if it comes down to that.

  • Why are the Kodak ZI8 cameras so hard to find?

Last week, I was considering getting a new video camera and was going to get the FLIP. But I decided to do some research and saw how the Kodak ZI8 offered more and was actually LESS than the Flip. But I spent the last couple of days looking all over the city for them at stores and everywhere it is sold out! And even big name online sites like amazon & buy.com are sold out! Have they always been in this high demand, or did it just explode recently within the last couple of weeks? This is hard to believe!

  • Who do you think will give Andre Agassi's Hall of Fame introduction speech next year?

Stefi Graf would be obvious. He gave her introduction speech when she was inducted in 2004. But that would be lame and so cliche. I think Pete Sampras should do it. Who better to introduce Agassi than his biggest rival, right? Sure it seems unlikely since Sampras is so private and is recently unhappy with what Agassi wrote about him in his autobiography, but I think it would be pretty fitting.

  • Which AT&T cell phones allow the maximum number of texts?

I have the LG Xenon and am disgusted with the 150 text message limit. I am constantly having to delete messages because I run out of space. The problem is I'd like to keep some of these messages, either for personal or practical reasons. My previous LG phones(all flip phones), all allowed me to hold hundreds of texts. And I sometimes had texts going back a full year or even longer. That's another thing I hate. As far as I can tell, there is no deletion protection on this phone. Sure, you move messages to the mem card, but if you decided to delete all messages at once, it will delete all messages whether they're on the phone or the mem card! So I want to get another phone. I'd like a phone like the Xenon, something with a touchscreen, qwerty keyboard, and for AT&T. But what phone out there allows a high number of texts?

  • Is it a good idea or a bad idea to compliment a woman on her obvious weight loss?

I saw a woman's ID the other day and in the picture she looked quite portly. But she must have lost something like 50 lbs, just by looking at her. I wanted to compliment her and I'm pretty sure she took pride in her weight loss, but I was afraid it might have come off as either insulting or at the least, a back-handed compliment. So what's the protocol here?

  • Why does Windows Movie Maker not cut right?

I have Windows Vista and Movie Maker(version 6). I have an AVI file that I'm trying to cut. It's basically a feature length movie and I'm trying to cut out some scenes. What happens is I cue it up to the scene I want to remove, then I click on the "Split" button. Then I move forward to the end of the scene I want to cut and then click "Split" again. Then I delete that scene. BUT, when I'm done with it all, I'll go back to the spots I've cut to see the transition from one scene to another(after deleting the scenes in question) only to discover that there is ALWAYS a few frames leftover from the scene I wanted to cut. Why is that? It's so annoying and makes precise cutting impossible!

  • Where can I find out what new promotions and deals fast food restaurants have?

Sometimes I will see a commercial on TV and I'll see that (for example)KFC has 10 pieces for 9.99, but days later, I will forget about it and not know what deals these places have. I'm not going to sit in front of a tv all day hoping to see these commercials again, and going to their websites don't help either. So is there maybe a website that lists all the current deals and promotions? You know, like a general database that's updated.

  • Why is it batting .300 and not 30%?

In basketball (and other sports), if someone makes 3 out of 10 shots, he shoots 30%. But in baseball, if a batter gets a hit 3 out of 10 times, he bats...300??? Why is it in baseball, players bat in "hundreds" and not percentage? I've wondered that ever since I was a kid.

  • Why do I think about her the most in the morning?

I was really good friends with a girl for over a year and I made the mistake of falling in love with her. Well she basically didn't want any of it and now we haven't talked for 2 months. I won't be surprised if we NEVER talk to each other again. But that doesn't stop me from thinking about her and still wanting to be with her. I try to forget about her but obviously, it's hard. Sometimes I can get by without thinking of her, but I find myself thinking about her the most in the morning when I first wake up. Why is that? More than any other time of the day, it's the morning when she's on my mind the most, and the deepest. Why?
