I received a call from a very shady sounding call center telling me that I was getting a notification from them as I had bought and registered a windows machine that my computer was full of malware and at risk from hackers. Went along with it for a while, they got me to check the administrative logs in system tools, telling me that all the warnings there were malware. At that point I just hung up, ran my own checks and found no more than the usual after a month of browsing.

Anyone ever heard of MS doing things like that before? Or was I right to hang up :P

Normally I use Defraggler if I need to defrag a hard-drive but it seems like trying to defrag a terrabyte worth of space is going to take a long, long time.

Any better programs or methods to use?

Which was pretty easy but I just don't get the next part:

hence find:     n

                    ∑         2/r^2-1

                   r=2

The skin on my hand has started peeling. It isn't itchy and it doesn't hurt. I haven't been using any thing on my hands so I don't think it's a reaction to something. I think I might head down to the doctors tomorrow but does anyone have any idea what it might be beforehand?

I'm having trouble with this question:

Find the range of values of k for which the equation

x^2+2kx+4k-3=0

has two real and distinct roots..

Using b^2-4ac > 0 I get an in-equality I can't solve and a quadratic I can't factorise

k^2-8k+6 > 0

What should I do?

The question is:

Derive the Maclaurin series for f(x) = cosx up to and including the term containing x^6.

Hence write down the general term of the Maclaurin series for f(x) = cosx.

Use the ratio test to show that the series converges for all x € R

I have gotten the maclaurin series up to x^6:

f(x) = π/2 - ( (π/2)x^3 / 3! ) + ( (π/2)x^5 / 5! )

I'm pretty sure that's right I just can't get the general term or remember the ratio test...
