Do you think that skeptics of man-made global warming are liars?
From his recent question pegminer seems to think so. I disagree with his position and believe his assertion is based on the usual dislike alarmists have for anyone who stands in the way of their little charade. What he's really saying is that debate is unhealthy and unwanted. I regularly see the same thing from other alarmists here as well.
32 AnswersGlobal Warming1 decade agoDo you think the leaders of the Copenhagen Summit are out to fleece us?
IPCC head Rajendra Pachauri plans to tell the Copenhagen Summit that after 7 more years it will be impossible to save the earth because temperatures will rise by 2.5C degrees. The African Union will demand 65 billion dollars at Copenhagen. Copenhagen will hear that it'll cost tens of billions of dollars annually to deal with climate emergencies.
Climategate has shown global warming science to be suspect. The earth hasn't warmed in the last ten years, the Atlantic hurricane season this year was the quietest in history and last winter set a record for the coldest ever.
5 AnswersGlobal Warming1 decade agoHave you heard the Global Warming Song yet?
Andrea Peyser of the New York Post said that her daughter came home singing the Global Warming Song that she was taught at school. It was performed by the class for some parents.
Part of the song the kids sing says that parents are bad for polluting and causing global warming that will kill everything. I'm just curious if anyone has heard it.
5 AnswersGlobal Warming1 decade agoWhy would any country sign something as damaging and repressive as the Copenhagen Climate Treaty?
The meeting takes place next month in Copenhagen and will replace the expired Kyoto Protocol. This treaty will give extraordinary powers to a new United Nations institution.
It's not designed to have any effect on climate.
It just assigns blame for CO2 use, forces 'equalization payments' between have/have not countries, and imposes stiff penalties for non-compliance. In short, it's blatant communism attacking capitalism and the western way of life. Clearly it's a thousand times worse than Kyoto.
A link to the full draft of the the Copenhagen Climate Treaty can be found on my link page.
8 AnswersGlobal Warming1 decade agoWhy aren't average global temperatures rising dramatically with higher CO2 levels?
The only constant in climate is change, and recent sea surface changes have been anything but dramatic. Over the past 2,000 years the earth has been both warmer and cooler than today, and sometimes these changes have occurred quickly.
We also know that 1998 was the warmest recent year and that average temperatures have been cooling since then. However, the atmospheric CO2 levels have risen during that time which indicates the alarmist-argued relationship between CO2 and climate isn't valid.
11 AnswersGlobal Warming1 decade agoWhat would you think of Al Gore becoming the world's first carbon-billionaire?
Over the years Al's green investment strategies and influence have been very lucrative for him. He's set to become the world's first billionaire on money made from the global warming industry.
10 AnswersGlobal Warming1 decade agoIs there really a scientific consensus on AGW, or is "scientific consensus" just an attention-getter?
Maybe the 'consensus' is just within the group of scientists who support the idea.
Here's a link showing many scientists who disagree with the entire notion of agw. Below are a few examples. What do you think of their opinions?
http://ilovecarbondioxide.com/2009/01/hundreds-of-...
"Warming fears are the worst scientific scandal in history…When people come to know what the truth is, they will feel deceived by science and scientists.” - UN IPCC Japanese Scientist Dr. Kiminori Itoh, an award-winning PhD environmental physical chemist
“Anyone who claims that the debate is over and the conclusions are firm has a fundamentally unscientific approach to one of the most momentous issues of our time.” - Solar physicist Dr. Pal Brekke, senior advisor to the Norwegian Space Centre in Oslo. Brekke has published more than 40 peer-reviewed scientific articles on the sun and solar interaction with the Earth.
"Many [scientists] are now searching for a way to back out quietly (from promoting warming fears), without having their professional careers ruined." -- Atmospheric physicist James A. Peden, formerly of the Space Research and Coordination Center in Pittsburgh, Pa.
“Since I am no longer affiliated with any organization nor receiving any funding, I can speak quite frankly. The main basis of the claim that man’s release of greenhouse gases is the cause of the warming is based almost entirely upon climate models. We all know the frailty of models concerning the air-surface system” - Atmospheric Scientist Dr. Joanne Simpson, the first woman in the world to receive a PhD in meteorology, and formerly of NASA, who has authored more than 190 studies and has been called “among the most preeminent scientists of the last 100 years.”
“Earth has cooled since 1998 in defiance of the predictions by the UN-IPCC….The global temperature for 2007 was the coldest in a decade and the coldest of the millennium…which is why ‘global warming’ is now called ‘climate change.’” - Climatologist Dr. Richard Keen of the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at the University of Colorado
15 AnswersGlobal Warming1 decade agoShould the US government lend more than half a billion dollars to a foreign hybrid manufacturer?
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB125383160812639013...
Gore clearly sees this as well-spent money to fight global warming. According to the Wall St. Journal he's already placed his order for one of these high priced luxury autos.
Is this helpful in the fight against 'global warming', or even wise considering the current economic crisis...or do you think the money would have been better spent financing American builders of far less expensive hybrids?
6 AnswersGlobal Warming1 decade agoDo you think we'll ever see scientific justification for claims of manmade global warming?
So far the warmers are batting .000
Will they eventually prove their point or will they just continue with their junk theories and politics?
11 AnswersGlobal Warming1 decade agoWhat do you think of Claude Allegre's current view on global warming?
Claude Allegre was one of France's top AGW alarmists, and one of the first French scientists to voice concerns over global warming. He wrote on the dangers of burning fossil fuels and rising CO2 levels.
He's changed his mind though, and now sees global warming as "over-hyped and an environmental concern of second rank".
He's also said that "there is no basis for saying, as most do, that the science is settled" and that "the many climate models and studies failed dismally in establishing a man-made cause of catastrophic global warming. Meanwhile, increasing evidence indicates that most of the warming comes of natural phenomena."
Claude Allegre received a Ph D in physics in 1962 from the University of Paris. He became the director of the geochemistry and cosmochemistry program at the French National Scientific Research Centre in 1967 and in 1971, he was appointed director of the University of Paris's Department of Earth Sciences. In 1976, he became director of the Paris Institut de Physique du Globe. He is an author of more than 100 scientific articles, many of them seminal studies on the evolution of the Earth using isotopic evidence, and 11 books. He is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and the French Academy of Science.
10 AnswersGlobal Warming1 decade agoDid Al Gore and the Club Of Rome fabricate global warming?
The Club of Rome may have come up with the idea of global warming to effect social change.
"In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill."
and...
"Democracy has failed us, a new system of global governance, based on environmental imperatives, must be implemented quickly..."
What are your thoughts?
12 AnswersGlobal Warming1 decade agoIf Al Gore was a republican, would liberals still support global warming so wholeheartedly?
I doubt it. I believe that supporters of global warming are, to a large degree, politically-aligned. Politics shouldn't be part of this the way it is. There's no doubting Gore's influence - some people have a lot of faith in what he says and look to him for answers.
It's the same in Canada, the liberals here support agw unquestionably.
22 AnswersGlobal Warming1 decade agoWould replacing all our fossil-energy sources with solar and wind power be practical?
All have some advantages and disadvantages.
Would it make sense to abandon all our current fossil fuel power sources and replace them with windmills and solar panels? Would we see a major decrease in CO2 levels as a result?
14 AnswersGlobal Warming1 decade agoWhy are most alarmists against using nuclear power?
Do they feel nuclear power isn't green enough, or safe enough? Or is it because of the cost or time required to build one?
Or is there another reason?
19 AnswersGlobal Warming1 decade agoThe sound on my computer stopped working, can you help?
When I checked the Sound and Audio Devices Properties I see 'No Audio Device', 'No Recording Device' and 'No Playback Device' in each Default Device section.
What is a 'device' and what could have happened to it? I got good sound until now, and suddenly nothing. Apparently the device I need disappeared into thin air.
2 AnswersDesktops1 decade agoDo you support James Hansen in his act of civil disobedience?
It seems that Jim got himself arrested along with about 30 others for a protest at a coal mine in West Virginia last month.
His climate science hasn't been up to par, so he seems to be changing his tactics to protesting and civil disobedience. People certainly have the right to protest, but should the Director of NASA GISS really be doing so?
13 AnswersGlobal Warming1 decade agoShouldn't we have seen some effects directly attributable to global warming by now?
The global warming phenomenon has been around for a long time now.
How much longer will it be before we know that there are changes happening that can be positively linked to global warming rather than natural change?
12 AnswersGlobal Warming1 decade agoWhy has the Arctic been a lot warmer than it is today?
http://www.livescience.com/animals/090425-arctic-d...
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/north/story/2008/07/07/ar...
We know that dinosaurs and forests existed in the high arctic many years ago. Natural climate change warmed and then cooled the area.
Evidence on both Devon Island and Ellesmere Island shows that the arctic was much warmer at one time than it is now.
Why are some people so sure that human factors would be the cause of future arctic warming?
