I am a mom and I troll the internet during nap times and after bed time. I also have a great cushy job (college prof.) so some of the time I am wasting work time. I am a very resonable and open minded person. If I gave you a stupid answer it is probably because you asked a stupid question. I am also a total football addict. PS I consider myself Atheist/Agnostic. I agree that there is no way to prove god or disprove god but I choose not to believe in the bible or the god of the bible. I welcome interaction, IM me or shoot me an e-mail. NO PREACHING OR HATE PLEASE!

  • What made god change his mind?

Ok, we are all familiar with these verses as they have been copy/pasted on R&S many times:

However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way. (Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT)

    1 Timothy 2:11-14

11A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. 12I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.

It is clear god thinks slavery is ok or at the very least tolerable and he defiantly thinks women are less than men. Many believers will say "this is out of date" or "it was ok in society at the time" or "these thing are meant for someone else". But isn't the bible god's "word" ? At the time the bible was written god thought slavery was ok and it was ok to crap on women. This was obviously his supreme opinion on the subject. Since believers seem to think god is all loving and kind does this mean his opinion changed and if so, when did god change his mind about these things? Did he see a women's rights rally and change his mind? Did the civil war make him rethink his stance on things? Just wondering.

  • Are breast implants wrong in christianity?

Wouldn't breast implants and other cosmetic surgery be altering what god gave you and therefore against the teachings of the bible? About two million women in the United States have breast implants, with 250,000 going under the knife each year. I'm sure at least a few of these ladies consider themselves "christian", so how is this justified?

BTW, I am an Atheist, so I am all for bigger boobs. I am not trying to insult any ones beliefs, I was just honestly wondering what the religious view was on this subject.

  • Why do people continue to ask questions of Atheists but block all Atheists from answering?

Doesn't this make it obvious they are not looking for honest answers? If you don't like what Atheists have to say, stop asking them questions.

Example: John Quill Quill (Sea Sqill Sqill)

  • Question for Christian women?

I know this has been asked before, but it still blows my mind that there are women that defend the bible. Do you just skip these parts? I don't care who they were intended for, this IS the word of "god" and reflects his feelings, correct? Don't give me that crap about the bible being out dated, if that is the case, how do you pick and choose what god intends you to believe. If you don't believe this because it is outdated, can you tell me when god changed his mind on the subject? Even if it is outdated, do you think the women back then deserved to be treated this way?

Would you marry a man who thought this way? Would you even associate with a man who thought this way? But you are willing to worship this thought!

    Genesis 3: 16

    16 To the woman he said, "I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing;

with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband,

and he will rule over you."

    1 Timothy 2:11-14

11A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. 12I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. 13For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.

    1 Corinthians 11:3-12

3Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God....7A man ought not to cover his head,[a] since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. 8For man did not come from woman, but woman from man

    Deuteronomy 22:28

28 If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, 29 he shall pay the girl's father fifty shekels of silver. [c] He must marry the girl, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives.

    Leviticus 15:19-22, 25-30

19 " 'When a woman has her regular flow of blood, the impurity of her monthly period will last seven days, and anyone who touches her will be unclean till evening.

20 " 'Anything she lies on during her period will be unclean, and anything she sits on will be unclean. 21 Whoever touches her bed must wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean till evening. 22 Whoever touches anything she sits on must wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean till evening.

    1 Corinthians 14:34-35

34women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says. 35If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.

  • How do I know if my first edition is a frist printing?

Ok, I know this has nothing to do with religion, but I asked in the book section and got exactly 0 answers. I frequent the R&S section so I know there are some intelligent people here. Can anyone help?......................

I have two first edition Tolkien books (The Book of Lost Tales Vol. II and The Lays of Beleriand). Someone asked me if they are also first printing and I have no idea how to know if they are first printing as well. Evidently they are worth considerably more if they are. Can any one help?

  • Is it ok for my cat to eat tuna?

I adopted a cat from the local shelter about 5 months ago. She is older (4+ years) and when I brought her home she would not eat. She was overweight when I got her and she lost a lot in a very short time. The only thing she would eat was canned tuna. Long story short, it was just stress she got over it after a 6 weeks or so and she is eating regular dry food now. However, she still wants a can of tuna in the evening and gets testy when I don't give it to her. So my question is.....is it ok for her to still have the canned tuna or should I stop giving her a can a day?

  • Question to believers about Stigmata wounds?

Why do people who claim they have experienced stigmata always have wounds on their hands?

    http://www2.kenyon.edu/Depts/Religion/Projects/Rel...

When in fact roman crucifixion was done by nailing the victim to the cross by their wrists.

    http://www.ucg.org/booklets/JC/roman-crucifixion.a...

Either way, it is a terrible way to go, but the whole wound in the hand stigmata is incorrect, so how do people that claim this have any credibility with believers and why are the saints that claimed stigmata still believed?

I mean no offense, I am honestly curious what your thoughts are.

  • Why do christian get insulted when I call their religion mythology?

    Mythology

    1. A body or collection of myths belonging to a people and addressing their origin, history, deities, ancestors, and heroes.

    2. A body of myths associated with an event, individual, or institution

    Myth

A traditional, typically ancient story dealing with supernatural beings, ancestors, or heroes that serves as a fundamental type in the worldview of a people, as by explaining aspects of the natural world...

    (Houghton Mifflin Dictionary)

All religions or handed down beliefs are mythology, so why do I get rude comments and hate from christians when I say this? Why do they think myth is such a bad word?

  • Why do christans use "just in case" to try to convert people?

I have had many christans (here and in person) ask me why I don't believe in god just in case there is a hell. Many also ask me aren't you scared to go to hell? I don't think it is appropriate to say I believe in something just in case. If I am going to base my whole life and moral standards on something, I would have to have a better reason than maybe it's true or I am afraid. I could care less what you believe (I am married to a christan) but come on, grow a set and think for yourself. Shouldn't belief be about understanding, not fear or what ifs?

  • Question about a bible verse?

2Cr 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

It says unbelievers, do you see this as referring to only atheist/agnostic or anyone who does not share your beliefs (muslim, pagan, etc.)?

and before anyone answers with "the bible is not real", I know it is not real, I am an atheist. I was just curious how this was interpreted by believers.

  • Why can't men hit the bowl?

I am so serious! I don't know, I don't have to stand up and pee. Is it a serious challenge from childhood or does it get harder as you grow and have farther to go? Is it really hard to aim or are you challenged by the bowl size? If so, should we start considering action to get big bowls mandatory, because it is really gross.

  • Do you believe religion should be taught in schools?

I am a non-believer and I DO believe every school should have a religion class at the appropriate grade level. A class to teach the history and basics of all the major religions of this country or the world. I also believe the basics of Atheism/Agnostic should be included. This way our kids would be educated with the facts instead of what they see on tv or learn from bias parents. I think this would eliminate kids just believing what their parents believe because they don't know better and would discourage hate against different religions. Just wondering what everyone else thinks. Please keep the preaching to yourself, I could care less and I am looking for intelligent opinions.

  • serious question for christians?

I am not trying to be offensive, just have a real question. My husbands preacher told him babies go to hell because they are not capable of believing. Most christians I have talked to say there is an age of understanding, but he said there is nothing in the bible about this so it is incorrect.

Are there any other christians that believe babies go to hell and is there anything in the bible about an age of understanding? If there is not, why don't you believe babies go to hell if they are not capable of understanding and believing?

  • Do you know what a feminist is?

I don't usually go to the genders studies section of YA, but I was shocked to see people on both side of the issue making silly, generalized and incorrect statements about feminists. So, do you know what a feminist is?

FYI....a feminist is ANYONE who believes women should have RIGHTS. That's it. There are different types of feminism, but the general term is very simple.
