2 AnswersAstronomy & Space9 years agoWhy do magazines and newspapers not use proper grammar?
Periodicals often start sentences or even whole paragraphs with conjunctions that are unfitting, like "And" improperly. Some examples are, "And that's not the end of it!" This sentence is the beginning and ending of a paragraph but it shouldn't be. Why is this so common? Certainly the editors go to school for English Literature?
1 AnswerMedia & Journalism9 years agoWhat are the main steps in starting a limo business in Colorado?
I'm starting a limo business in Colorado. I believe the following steps are required:
1. Obtain a limo in good working order and get it insured as a taxi/limo with the right agencies.
Colorado requires a divider between the driver and passenger for alcohol consumption purposes.
2. Obtain a PUC license and register it with the state, paying the appropriate fees.
3. Obtain a liquor license (?) for the vehicle?
4. Obtain an EIN for tax purposes.
5. Advertise.
What am I missing?
2 AnswersSmall Business9 years agoWhat plant is this? I suspect a crabapple?
I have this wild plant growing in our yard in Fountain, Colorado that's now bearing fruit. On a dare, I tried one of them. Tasted a bit bitter but not overly so. Fruit was white interior and smooth exterior. I suspect a species of crab-apple. Tree stays green-leafed until late fall.

4 AnswersRock and Pop1 decade agoWhat is the gaelic (Irish) translation for "gods"?
Google translation provides "God" as Dia which seems Latin in origin. Early Celts had several "gods" before Roman influance. What would the Irish translation of "gods" be in the sense of a pegan god (plural)?
5 AnswersLanguages1 decade agoWhat newspaper has every comics strip?
I'm a big fan of comics. Aside from online reading, is it possible to get every comic strip, or at least a majority of the sevreral hundred in syndication delivered to my home daily, to include non-panel-dropped Sunday strips? I live near Denver and I think the Denver Post is right now sadly the newspaper with the largest publication of them. I'd rather just have a newspaper of JUST comics!
1 AnswerComics & Animation1 decade agoWhy is the audience so liberal on the Stephen Colbert Report?
The Colbert Report show on Comedy Central is generally a conservative pro-republican show, yet the audience applauds liberal mentionings which is contrary to the viewer's and Stephen's general beliefs.
Is it that the audience are carry-overs from "The Daily Show with John Stewart", or that where the "Colbert Report" is filmed contains a large majority of unemployed liberals, therefore being able to make it to the show where most people would be employed during the time of its filming?
Certainly the country is dead-lock polarized on republican versus democratic political ideals at this point. It would make sense at worst a 50/50 split in the audience.
6 AnswersMedia & Journalism1 decade agoShadow panther-like ghosts?
Once in a great while, I'll see in the distance a shadow shaped like a large panther, very sleek-looking, running full-bound at about 45 mph at night. At first, I though it was a very fast coyote, but it's more streamlined and unusually quick. They usually are about 500 feet away, about 4 feet tall and about 10 feet long, 15 with the tail. They're always chasing something linearly and then disappear. I'll usually see one every few months. I suppose I should get my eyes checked but it looks like a type of shade. I'm pretty attune to paranormal, and I've seen the "feeling-like-your-head-is-crushing" shadow people twice in my life. I've seen Death itself as an entity once, and apparently djin during a few out-of-body experiences (not fun). I take no drugs and I'm level-headed as can be. Please no flames, thanks.
2 AnswersMythology & Folklore1 decade agoCan I use carburetor cleaner fluid in the gas tank of my motorcycle instead of dismantling the carburetors?
I have a few motorcycles that use carburetors. After winter storage my technique is to drain the tank of the old gas and add a gallon of 91 octane (OEM recommended), then add about 1/2 a bottle or less of carb cleaner (such as STP) and crank it until it will start with full-choke. I then back off the choke over the course of 30 minutes until the bike runs fine with no choke. The next day I ride to the gas station and fill up with gas.
This seems to work for years, but I wonder if the varnish gets washed away with the cleaner in the float bowl?
6 AnswersMotorcycles1 decade agoDangerous out-of-body experience? OBE?
A few weeks ago while I was sleeping I had a recurring experience of what seemed to be sleep paralysis accompanied by a floating sensation towards the north-east upper corner of my bedroom. It was hard to breathe but I did not have an experience of bi-location (not this time or any other). I as not able to turn around or control my direction with ease. I had an impending sense of dread as if something was coming, eagerly. It was difficult to get my way back to the bed in a sense of panic. It seemed like it took 5 minutes or more, and in reverse.
A previous happening involved a floating person sitting "Indian style" and bald in the same corner. This being was malevolent and wanted to tear me to pieces.
I've had approximately 25 of these types of "dreams" of which I desperately try to wake up but endure a paralysis to do so. Even if I make it back to my body to wake up it takes several minutes to move with great mental effort.
On about 3 instances I was able to escape the north-east corner and instead go down the hallway but the sense of danger increased with every inch of movement. By the time I made about 40 feet the intensity was very extreme of fear and dread and panic, as if something would "get" me, and also get whatever space occupied my original bed location.
Every instance occurs at late night, after sleeping about 3 hours or more. I do not take any drugs whatsoever, nor do I drink almost at all. I'm 40 years old and have had these occurrences about once every 3 years or so, give or take. The level of panic or danger varies from deep concern to outright heart-attack-inducing terror. There's no seeming correlation to my current life events at the time, diet, or physical exertion during the day. It's all random, and movement is difficult while "floating".
Opinions? No dorky answers please. I know it sounds ridiculous.

2 AnswersNon-Alcoholic Drinks1 decade agoWhat is my 1942 Weston's Distillery blended scotch worth?
I have some scotch from 1942 imported from Scotland from Weston's Distillery (now a ghost distillery) that was imported into New York City. The corks of the 2 bottles were disintegrating so I had to re-cork them and remove the original seal (I no longer have the seals but they had in very tiny print in roman numerals 1942). Upon re-corking the half-empty bottles (due to evaporation) I did sample a tiny bit (tasted like a musty burnt library for those in-the-know).
What would these two blended scotches be worth?
2 AnswersBeer, Wine & Spirits1 decade agoLinksys router (Wireless B) wireless option keeps dying?
It's a 7-year old router. The wireless portion cuts-out about every 30 minutes or so. I've checked the settings (it's set for a 2-day client, aka set to zero) but lately I'll lose connectivity with all my wireless devices and have to recycle power.
I believe I've checked all the settings at 192.168.1.1 and have them correct, and I have tried different channels for interference issues. Directly plugging the Cat6 cable in directly causes no problems or dropouts.
Is my router too old? Is this a common dying router issue?
