  • Walls look like thin "cardboard", trying to paint. Best paint to use?

We live in a townhouse that has a really bad wall/paint job. You can't clean the walls without it staining - I mean these look like cardboard. So we have stains, water marks, different colors (the owners patched over holes with this white stuff, and the rest of the walls are a tan color). We want to paint over this and be able to have a more "wipeable" surface. Don't want bright colors - will need to paint original color when we move out. Heck, original color is fine - just want a wipeable surface and something that's not so patchy. Any advice would be great. Have 2 kids so wipeable would be great.

    Thanks.

  • Bunch of pine needles fell in air vent...will it cause a fire?

Okay so my husband opened the air vent near the tree because it was getting too hot upstairs, and he heard/saw a bunch of pine needles off the tree fall down the vent. Now I have no idea if this will cause a fire or not - we have the heater on.

I'm sure I'm being paranoid, but any ideas/thoughts?

  • 4 year old son's 4th toe goes under 3rd..help?

My son's 4th toes have always "hung" down a bit and under the 3rd toes. I've asked the doc repeatedly since he was a newborn, and was told he'd grow out of it as he walked. Well he did on the right, but on the left foot when he runs barefoot the toe gets caught and it's starting to bug him more.

My sister had this - my mom was told to do buddy taping (tape the toe to another so it sits straight) for several hours a day for weeks. It worked. My daughter had it but grew out of it.

Once again, the doc says to just let him grow out of it, but I'm really worried about him. I've seen him walking on it and the range of motion is starting to suffer.

Since the taping worked for my sister (and the doctor said it would neither hurt nor help, nice answer!), should I go ahead and try it? If nothing else so he's more comfortable? He has wide feet but I get him wide shoes, so he says his toes are flat in shoes and socks.

    Thanks.

  • Should I apply for SS Disability? Would I even qualify?

I have a lot of medical issues - lupus, seizure disorder, rheumatoid arthritis, among several. The big one is the seizures. I'm on medications that are helping, but will likely have to increase. I'm already at the point where I have to lie down and rest all the time because I'm exhausted from the side effects, and even then, still having seizures about once a week (which is better than daily). Can't drive, can't focus/stay awake enough to work from home and my income has dropped to about 20% of what I was making before.

I'm relatively young at 38 but have enough credits. Since my job is from home will I have problems? Even my bosses are upset and fixing to let me go because my production is so far gone. I am married and don't need the insurance...but those medicine copays are huge and getting disability would help at least cover the copay expenses.

Not looking for a handout, but I've been trying to make a go of it with work and I simply can't work enough. Even if it's from home, you're still clocked in and have deadlines like in an office. I can't just stop and say "yeah I need to lay down", even though they've been very accommodating thus far. their patience is wearing thin though.

    Thanks for the advice...

  • Looking for DSLR for indoor ballet & outdoor sports?

Trying to get a DSLR that can grow with my family. Need to get good photos for indoor/low light Ballet and also for football games/action shots. My current camera is starting to go, so I need something new. Not a pro but have an older Sony Digital, built-in lens, that I've been pushing and setting to get pretty good quality low-light no flash pics. I've been able to get only as high as 5 x 7 prints on those before it gets way too grainy. Takes good videos, too.

My father has a Nikon telephoto lens so I'm leaning towards Nikon, but frankly I need something sturdy that is somewhat weather proof, takes great action shots and won't kill my wallet. Want to stay below $800. TIA.

  • Can I stack a front load washer and dryer that are different brands but the same size?

I found a dryer but the matching washer has bad reviews. I want a front-load washer and don't care about how it looks a bit different, but would be interested in being able to stack them if we ever moved in the future. As long as they're the same size would I be able to stack 2 different brands? IE, a Samsung and an LG?

  • Parking at orlando international airport?

We will be parking our car in Orlando for about a week. We had thought about using either the airport or one of the park and ride locations, but are worried about the security of the vehicle. The airport site says their lot is patrolled by Orlando Police Dept.

Anyone have any experience with parking there or in the other lots? Any issues with your vehicle? Airport parking is around double the other ones, but what good is saving money if your car gets damaged or stolen?

    TIA

  • Wii controller problems playing side by side?

We have 2 wii controllers and are having issues when playing side by side (Just Dance, Wii sports resort) Controller 2 is picked up just doesn't seem to be responding as much. We've changed batteries etc, but to no avail. My daughter took controller 2 to a neighbor's house to play but she didn't notice any problems so I don't think it's the controller, but I could be wrong.

I think that they're too close to the TV for the bar to pick them both up fully but the controller is working -- just not picking everything up.

    Thanks!

  • Sec Deposit issue-dispute over washer?

We just moved out of a rental. Landlady has just told me that the place was dirty and that the washing machine wasn't working. She's claiming the machine was new, but when we looked at the place May 09 she told us it was 2 yrs old then, so it'd be 3 yrs old. I did a load just before moving out...no issues. She's claiming it won't rinse or spin. I told her I didn't agree with that and to have someone look at it.

I agree to the "not clean" bit, as the day I went to vacuum, my vacuum cleaner was smoking and spitting out more than it was taking in, so I have no problem with that.

I'm already paying $100 to have someone come take the dish off her roof, though apparently legally I don't have to since she agreed to have it installed.

BTW, I have a suspicion, considering she "needed" the sec deposit for moving expenses last year and cashed it immediately, that she doesn't have the money. Next friday is close to the legal 30 day mark.

I so DON'T want to buy her a new washer. What kind of recourse do I have on this? Even if she claims it can't be fixed, don't I owe her for a 3 yr old depreciated washer and not a brand new one?

    TIA

  • Need car...401k loan?

Our credit is shot. Found loads of errors, which will get fixed, but car engine died today. Have some $ in bank but we're also needing to have 1st+sec to move soon. Husband has >80K in his 401k. Only would need about 10-15K.

Would this be a good idea? I just got a job so we'd be able to put this back in within a year. I need a car for dr's apts (have lupus, tumor, and other issues), plus 2 kids.

    TIA

  • Being reported as Ind Contractor by boss...tax time?

I'm listed as an independent contractor by my employer. I'm only working a couple of hrs a week...started late last year, so I don't think I even made $2,000. I know that I'm going to need to pay SS and other taxes, but I have no idea what the process is...IRS site sux. This yr shouldn't be biggy but want to get process down.

Any hints/tips/suggestions are welcome. What do I do? Thanks!

  • Furnace has water in it, pilot constantly going out?

We're renting this place, and when the heater wasn't working we were told the pilot light was probably out. Well we've had to relight it 3 times already, and just noticed there is a puddle of water INSIDE the furnace, under where the pilot light would normally be lit.

  • Owner selling rental from under us b4 lease end?

Signed a 1-yr lease with a woman for a townhouse. She said she wanted a family & preferred someone who'd stay "at least 1-2 yrs", take care of the place, etc. Gave a deposit, moved in 5/15/09.

Now she texted me, said her mortgage had changed and she needed to sell the place & we needed to leave or buy the place from her. I called her on that BS, and she now says it's just she'd have to pay back the first-time homebuyer $ they gave her. I reminded her we had a yr lease, and even her realtor said that she's pretty stuck unless I agree to leave early.

We just barely got done unpacking. I'm facing possible brain surgery. The place needs plenty of work, and I'm not going to do a thing now that she's trying to force us out.

    1. Can she really force us to leave b4 lease ends? No selling clause...not even an eviction clause. Pretty silly lease actually...for her.

    2. Can I sue her to reimburse us moving expenses, etc?

    3. When I give the realtor the walk-thru should I tell him everything, or do I have to act in the owner's "Best interests"?

BTW, her parents live down the street in a 6 br, $500,000 house who could very likely lend her/give her the stupid $ but she's crying poverty over having to change the situation and sell.

  • Looking to get a home loan...improving credit...what type loan?

We've found a TON of errors and things we didn't even know were in collection. We're fixing these now and have letters showing the debts were paid off. Hopefully next year, the scores will be much better.

Now...is there a difference in qualifying for a loan for an existing home versus qualifying for a loan to build a home? Which is our better option? Are the downpayments any different?

We spoke to a loan officer about the credit and he said as long as we had letters showing things were paid, a loan officer would work with us even if it happened to still be on the credit report.

    TIA

  • Alternatives to Spironolactone -- TTC?

I was put on spiro for PCOS...lost 40 lbs with this thing in combo with other meds. Came off it while TTC, now I've gained back some and I can tell I just feel completely swollen -- eating has not changed.

Are there any alternative diuretics (even OTC, which I know are not as strong) that I can take to combat this?

    TIA

  • compaq desktop, d drive full, c drive 75% empty?

Hi! I have a compaq desktop that's running fairly slow. C drive ok. D drive is almost completely full. Now I think that the D drive is the back up for the computer. Can I go into the D drive and delete old restoration points up until maybe 2 months ago? It's a 2-3 yr old computer, so maybe it's been building up.

    TIA

  • "smart casual" holiday party -- help!?

Hi! I have a "smart casual" holiday party to go to. However, I have an old bridesmaids dress, very watery/shimmery material that is floor length, spaghetti straps. I was thinking of cutting this and hemming it up to just below the knees and wearing it. I've lost 40 lbs and can *finally* wear this dress and would like to show off my body a bit.

Even shortened, would something like this be too formal for "smart casual"? I've been told I could do a LBD, or dressy pants and a holiday top, but it'd be nice to wear this dress.

    TIA
