Every recipe I find for scones calls for dried fruit. If I use fresh berries, does that affect the dough consistency?

  • I have nowhere to go?

I was originally staying with my family with my fiance, after moving across country from an apartment and a full time job. they kicked him out after finding out he had a disorderly conduct charge. we moved back to where we came from, and we're staying with his family, and in the process of getting new jobs. the car I "have" I share with him and my family basically won't talk to me because I chose to go with him, and now he's leaving me. I have no family, no car, no job and I'm at a loss. what should I do?

  • how to reject an advance gracefully?

I work at a hotel, and I can usually tell when a guest is trying to ask me out or flirt, my only concern is letting him down easily without jumping the gun.

it's like a double edged sword: I'm not sure if they're hitting on me, then they ask me me out, and I have to tell them no. danger of a strange man not taking "no" for an answer, thinking I am leading him on or teasing him... you get the idea.

on the other side of the spectrum, I can be too cautious and assume a man is flirting with me, nip it in the bud, only to find out he wanted directions. he now walks away thinking I'm an arrogant *****, which could affect my job later on, should he need help, etc.

please help! ladies feel free to answer, but I would definitely appreciate the feedback from the gentlemen!

  • bathroom mirror replacement...?

the other day I was brushing my teeth over the sink when I slipped on standing water. I survived the fall, but the bathroom mirror I used to keep from falling did not.

where can I find a simple pane to replace the one that's cracked? it doesn't need to be fancy. I live in a crappy apartment and I want to replace it so that I don't lose my deposit. thanks in advance.

  • so upset. please help?

my fiance and I are both actors, and we auditioned for a production of "a Streetcar Named Desire", him for stanley and I for stella. he got it, I didn't, and I'm completely inconsolable right now. I AM happy for him, but I can't help but be devastated on my behalf.

I've been rejected before (as is the way of the lifestyle) but I love this show. I know everything about it, and since I was little i have wanted this role. I don't know how to let it go gracefully.

  • accused of being racist..is this fair?

I tried to ask this question two days ago and was met with some static....not my intention to offend or rant. I'll clarify.

in my apt. building, the woman who lives below me is an awful neighbor: she's loud at all hours of the day, lets her kids run out into the middle of the road (we live on a busy street) they come up to my apt and invite themselves in...the guy who lives diagonal down from us was awoken by a child hitting him with a stick! he brought him back over to his mother's apartment and she asked him, very sarcastically, if there was anything she could do for him, as if he had inconvenienced her greatly by returning him home.

the worst thing about living above her is that she physically disciplines her young children. it's so loud that I can clearly hear hitting through my walls, shortly followed by a child screaming in pain. as a child of an abusive household, it's unbearable to listen to and immediately my focus goes to the kids and what is happening to them.

finally one night at three am I couldn't stand it anymore so I called the police to have them check it out. she accused me of calling the police because I'm racist (she's african american) and I about lost it.

I'm just wondering how fair this is, and if there's anything I can do to make it so it's not unbearable to see her in the morning when we leave for work. I am so mad that someone would accuse me of being racist, especially since my roommate is african american as well! It's insanity!

  • Relationship Stalemate- PLEASE HELP!?

my fiance and I keep having the same stupid fight over and over again. I'll give a specific example:

today he drove me to work (I had left my car there overnight) and we were about to turn in when all of a sudden he says "I'm about to get pulled over." mind you, I've been in the car with him on numerous occasions when he has said the same thing, inducing panic only to realize that a police officer is just driving behind him.

panicked, I say to him "You always DO that! just because a cop is behind you doesn't mean he's going to pull you over!"

he got quiet, and mad and I pressed him to tell me what was wrong (bad move) until he snapped "WHAT!".

he's not mad at what I said, he'S mad at the fact that I snapped at him. every time I "snap" at him a huge fight ensues, but if he does the same thing I'm upset for about two seconds, address the issue and let it go.

I want an honest opinion if you could. If I'm doing something wrong, I certainly can't see it. I am not interested in being right, I am interested in solving this. thank you for your time.

  • does smoking exacerbate psoriasis symptoms/ increase the risk for flare-ups?

I've just been recently diagnosed with psoriasis (app. three months ago) and I had never shown symptoms until I was smoking on a regular basis and pretty heavily at that. now that I'v equit I was curious as to whether the probability of getting another flare up will go down, if I do get another one will it be as severe, and how fast will the one I currently have go away. thank you so much for your time!
