My sister was seriously overweight and the VA in Idaho told her she needed to lose weight and the weight was what caused her to get diabetes. About a year ago she apparently called in sick on a Sunday night and when she didn't show up on Tuesday a friend went and found her unconscious in bed (she'd messed herself). No drugs or alcohol or even a history of it...real straight arrow but desperate to lose weight because of problems (like a hernia, etc.). She never came out of the coma and the hospital said her blood sugar was almost non-existant. So, I guess I'm wondering what kind of diets could cause this and what sort of diets should a middle-aged diabetic person follow? Oh, she was about 5' and weighed 270 lbs.
