  • How do I handle it when I can't hear a person who speaks very softly?

I work with a very nice lady who speaks in a very soft voice. I can't always hear her. I ask her to say things again, or will hold my hand up to my ear, or walk over closer to her, but still, I can't always hear her. What would you do in this situation?

  • Helping dog adjust to departure of family member?

My son is leaving for Navy Boot Camp next week. We have 2 dogs but the youngest of the the two is "his" dog. My son trained him and took 100% care of him since he was a puppy. The dog is now almost 4. Any tips on how to make the dog adjust? Should I keep some of my son's clothing around for him to smell? Thanks.

  • Daughter's bf's parents will visit in our area, should we invite them over?

Our daughter (just finished college) lives about 5 hours away. Her boyfriend's parents who live in another part of the country, will be visiting a city about one hour from our home as part of their vacation. Would it be a good idea to have them to our home for dinner?, or treat them to dinner out? The kids seem pretty serious.

  • How to recoup deductible after a Fender Bender.?

Yesterday I had a fender bender. I was in a parking lot, waiting to turn, when the other car backed up out of a parking spot and hit me. The driver was very nice--said it was his fault as I was in his blind spot. His car was not damaged (Land Rover) but mine was (Mustang). Is it possible/how would I go about getting my deductible from the other insurance company? Thanks.

  • Graduating RN: should she go for a "residency" program next year?

My daughter will graduate from college in May 2009 with her BSN. The teachers are suggesting that she spend one year in a Residency Program, where she'd work and learn in a mentored situation. Do you have any input on the pros and cons of this? Thanks for your help.

  • The word "GIFT"----when did it become a verb?

Lately I notice people say they will "Gift" an item to someone. I always thought that we GIVE a gift--that the item is a gift to be given. Is it correct English to say I will gift it to someone. Shouldn't it be: I will give someone a gift?

    thanks.

  • Work Situatiion---how would you handle this?

I am dept. supervisor with a major dept. store. We are on Mgmt teams of three: an Assistant Store Mgr, and 2 supervisors. Well, my dept is short handed and some evenings I have to work alone in my dept. The other night, this happened and the other supervisor went home sick. Well, the Asst. Store Mgr was all mad because she was the only one available to run the store. Granted it's a lot easier when there are 2 or 3 but this was unplanned. She was really angry and spoke gruffly to me that night. The next night it was our team again, and she was walking around with her nose up in the air, and giving me short answers if she answered at all. At closing time, I began asking her a question, and her reply was on the lines of "Didn't you notice I'm not speaking with either of you? You two really let me down last night".

How would you act the next time you work with her?

  • On the TV Show, "ER", who sang....?

On the TV show "ER", who sang "Over the Rainbow" ? They played it when Mark Green died.

I know it's been several years, but I still remember it as being a beautiful rendition of this song.
