Which console/gaming system is the best? Wii U, PS4 or X-Box One?
Our son wants one for Christmas but in the past the unit we purchase always ends up being the worst choice (poor game availability or glitches or it just breaks).
Each of the big three has advantages and disadvantages, our son's school friends all say get the Wii U but I thought I would throw the question out there because I'm sure there will be some gamers around who have used all three and can guide us through the maze!
Thanks!
8 AnswersVideo & Online Games5 years agoWhat cat breed is small, with high set ears that curve backwards at the tip?
We got a new cat from the rescue centre, yesterday, and although he is a mixed breed, it seems like there is something distinct in his genetics. He is five months old, with tiny paws, so he s obviously not going to grow into a large cat, and his frame is slender, like an oriental breed. His eyes are almond shaped and golden coloured, his face isn t as long as an oriental but has a distinct break between cheeks and muzzle. It s the ears that stand out the most though, they sit high on his head, almost vertically, and they have this graceful, delicate, backwards curve, which starts about two thirds of the way up the ear but is quite distinctive at the tip. From face on, he really resembles depictions of Bast. He s also very much a people cat and loves to snuggle. Does anyone have any idea what could be the cause of these unusual features? Thank you!
4 AnswersCats5 years agoWhat is the relevance of somebody being given a bullet?
Our son came home from school yesterday and found somebody had slipped a bullet (well, the casing) into his blazer pocket. It could have been an attempt to get him blamed for stealing it from a school display (though he's not aware of there actually being one). However he has been having problems at school because of a bully. One boy had been causing trouble for a number of children but everybody was too scared of him to do anything so the school's hands were tied. Our son had the guts to stand up and make a formal complaint which means that they can now do something about him. He is now staying clear (generally) because he's being closely watched but his "girlfriend" is now psychologically attacking my boy and his little group of cronies are making life hard. He's still facing problems at least twice a week, mostly psychological, as I said, but there's still a lot of pushing and shoving. The trauma is so bad, he has developed Tourette's like tics, the doctor has put him on clonazepam but they are getting worse. Thanks to the "girlfriend" though, half the school thinks he is putting them on. He was at the top set of the year but this whole thing has set him back to set 2 and they are destroying him. He is talking about suicide. Please help, I just want my boy to feel safe.
3 AnswersPsychology6 years agoHow does one become an official Priestess of Bast?
I have been able to find little about the subject, excepting a certain temple in America. There they recommend a year (or two?) of training at their temple but I (and, I suspect, very few people) could afford that financially or emotionally, being parted from their families.
What puzzles me the most is the day I became "hers". She did not ask for my service, my worship, love or obedience. She came to me, spoke one sentence and I knew her. With my heart and soul, with all that is in me, there was no doubt whom I faced. After that first question, I heard her voice as if my ears had heard it, though I knew they hadn't. All she asked of me was my friendship.
She has had that all my life. I love cats and even the "be careful of him he's got a nasty temper" cats would be purring for attention or padding on my lap. So she had my friendship and love and after a great deal of soul searching and studying ancient religions too, I realised she had my worship and adoration. That was when she first called me her priestess. In years since she has on occasion added her "chosen" to this. My dilemma is, since these words were spoken in trance state, do I have the right to use them in the "mundane" world? or must I find some way he earn them physically? Thank you for any aid or advice you may have to offer.
May the paw of Bast shield and guide you.
2 AnswersReligion & Spirituality6 years agoMy son wants a Steampunk bedroom but we are having trouble explaining it to his grandparents. Can anybody help?
We have tried to explain Steampunk to them but I don't think we are doing a very good job because my Mum says they'll just do it simply then he can add "that stuff". (I'm disabled so they are helping out with the decorating.)
I have decided to create a "mood-board" to show what steampunk is about, so that she can see that it is actually stylish and perfect for a young boy just entering his teens. What I need are suggestions for pictures to add, individual words or short phrases that evoke the right feeling, anything from popular TV or movies would be great. I don't want to add any cosplay style pictures though, she thinks adults who dress up are "weirdos" (yeah, and that includes me!)
Thanks!
3 AnswersOther - Society & Culture6 years agoCalling nail varnish experts! Can somebody please explain to me the difference between chrome, metallic and foil effect nail polish?
I get very confused, reading about different polishes, when somebody says "This is more of a chrome effect than a foil" or something similar.
3 AnswersOther - Beauty & Style6 years agoWhat earrings are best for sleeping in?
I don't get to wear other earrings very often but I don't want the holes to seal over. (One did and I had to re-pierce it. I'd prefer not to have to do it again!)

1 AnswerOther - Internet6 years agoOK, this is an odd question but how do you "realign" your pelvis?
I don't even know if that is the right term but I seem to have twisted the front of my pelvic bone out of place. It has happened before (I have a genetic disorder that causes my joints to sprain or subluxate/dislocate extremely easily) but it's not been as bad as this before and I've been able to put up with it. Today, where the pelvis meets at the front, where the ligament holds it in place, mine isn't. I don't know for sure how bad is classed as really bad and it's difficult to measure exactly. The left side is definitely over half a centimetre higher than the right and moving anything from waist down is very painful (and that is through painkillers.) I can't go to hospital so I really need some suggestions, please?
4 AnswersInjuries6 years agoCan anybody help me with a good charm or prayer to protect my son?
My son is so miserable at school that yesterday he tried to work out a way to kill himself, then and there. He is only 12, almost the youngest child in his school year but he loves learning. The other kids clown around, distracting the teacher so the lessons are always chaotic and my son ends up with really bad headaches and vertigo. He's being picked on by other kids because he just wants to learn, he's always polite and helpful (they are also calling him posh because of his accent, he just doesn't have the local accent very much.) He's very much into the arts, rather than sport, so you can imagine what that does for his reputation and, to add insult to injury, he started going through puberty about 10 months ago, and his hormones haven't equalised yet, there's more oestrogen at the moment which has made him gain weight very rapidly in the last few months. We have seen a paediatrician who's sorting some help with his posture and a couple of minor things which he has inherited from me, (I'm bedridden, my hubby and son are my carers) physiotherapy will help with that and the weight gain. The specialist was also going to look into some sort of support for him as a young carer, perhaps with a counsellor but that could take weeks to sort out and he's feeling suicidal on the second day back after the holidays. I'm so scared for him and I feel so helpless. Can anybody recommend something, please?
3 AnswersPrimary & Secondary Education6 years agoPlease help me find a really good horror film (a "found footage" type based in a building, not outdoors, would be good but not obligatory!)?
My hubby is a massive horror fan and I thought it would be cool, after our son is tucked up in bed, to snuggle up to something scary. (keeping up Victorian traditions!)
The problem is, what? Hubby is a massive horror buff. He has recently been watching a run of "found footage" ones (to make the perfect film for him, to scare him, it would need an abandoned hospital, run by Krusty the Klown (the sane one) and his insane twin, summoning the spirits of deceased children then stuffing them into dolls while other spirits have been drawn by the activity, with their own agenda...) That's his four weaknesses, hospitals, children, clowns and dolls. Probably in that order but clowns or dolls might be swapped over, depending on the specifics of design. Anyway, being a "fan", he's seen loads of these, so the obvious ones people always trot out, Rec etc. we have seen.
I'm open to other horror subgenres as well though. Blood and guts don't bother us, Apocalypse (we've all been there) sure, although we're not overly keen on the sci-fi areas (and def. NO major rape plots). Zombies, Vamps, other monsters, bring 'em on but please remember if it was a popular/moderately popular film, we've almost certainly seen it.
We'd even be open to a decent zom-com (saw Warm Bodies recently, read the book ages ago. Quite clever actually!)
Basically, what I need is a hidden gem, overlooked by the masses. Probably an indie but you never know. Come on horror fanatics, give me a Christmas miracle, please!
2 AnswersMovies6 years agoHow can I disguise the differences between my eyes?
My problem is that, not only is one eye a different shape and size to the other, it is lower down on my face (the top of that eye is about halfway down, maybe lower, than the other eye.) The lower eye also has a much more rounded lower lid (you can see the full iris at the bottom) and looks larger in general. The other eye is a much straighter curve to the lower lid, then angles up slightly at the edge to meet the upper lid.
Please can somebody tell me how to help disguise this? I feel like Quasimodo :(
Thank you.
3 AnswersMakeup6 years agoAll the beauty mags say there's a red lip colour to suit everyone but I can't find one. Can anybody help?
I have very pale skin (for years I couldn't find foundation or concealer fair enough) which has a slightly yellow tone. I suit greens, golds, browns and plum/berry tones. About the worst colour you can put on me is silver, it looks so out of place.
The problem is that I also have very yellowish teeth. It isn't due to staining (I was actually born with six teeth and even those and my milk teeth were yellowy.) Dentists have told me that it is just the natural colour of my teeth. I'm ashamed to smile and show my teeth in public.
So, the problem is, what shades can I wear that will suit my skin tone without making my teeth look even more yellow? Please help, I want to be able to smile. Thanks!
3 AnswersMakeup6 years agoI'm looking for female songs which rise above C6, can anybody help, please?
I don't mind what type of song it is, though I would prefer to avoid Opera. Otherwise, it could be pop, rock, musicals or even descents to hymns or carols, I would like a large range to choose from.
Thank you all very much!
2 AnswersPolls & Surveys6 years agoNeed advice from Pole/Lyra/Silks artistes for a pose that's Leonine, still feminine and a bit ethereal. No one in UK could help. Can you?
I am creating a series of paintings for my husband and I want them to be really memorable. (I am very ill, this time next year it is unlikely I will be able to draw, paint or do much at all with my hands. Eighteen years ago I had the flexibility and lower body strength to have taken to ariel dancing like a duck to... air! OK, my arms were puny but sortable. Now I'm very ill, can't stand, can hardly even sit, and I want to give my hubby something of the me I could have been.) I had been thinking along the lines of pole dance, something elegant and seductive and he mentioned a lion tamer so I thought merge the two ideas and be the lion myself. Still undecided whether I'm representing a lion in a tree or a dancer putting on a pole/lyra show as a lion. The former just makes me cringe "splinters"!
The best idea I have so far is a dragonfly (I think that's the name of the move) with the straight leg about 90° forwards in stag position, the back curved to arch the torso upwards and the arms arched wide, as if sweeping forwards, leaping in for a kill (if you look at any pouncing cat, they all open their grip wide as they leap in.)
Does this sound too aggressive? I would be so grateful for any suggestions. I'd also like to dress my character in Egyptian Costume. They had a lion headed Goddess and the fall and hang/drape of the skirt would look cool pooled on the floor. (If you aren't sure, it's just floor length strips of fabric front and back. Think Princess Leia's bikini!) Thanks!
1 AnswerOther - Sports7 years agoMust both my cats be euthanized if one has Feline Infectious Peritonitis?
We have two beautiful black and white cats but one has lost a lot of weight, very quickly. We thought it might have been psychological because we recently had a flood in the kitchen where their food bowls and litter tray were, so she was avoiding the area. We bought her some special food to help her bulk up a bit, until the vets opened, so we could take her in. Even after one day she seemed brighter but then, this morning her eye became affected. The pupil is blown and the blood vessels in her iris have ruptured. We rushed her straight in without waiting for an appointment and the vet examined her, took blood samples and sent them off straight away. He thinks there is a chance it is toxoplasmosis but it is more likely to be FIP (the dry type) and that if it is, she will have to be put to sleep. Until the results come back (which could be as much as a week) she has been given eye drops and liver tablets to help make her more comfortable. As horrible as this is, the. Vet has also told us that if the FIP test is positive, our other cat (who is only two, full of energy, playful, eating well, no eye problems at all, basically totally symptom free) will also have to be put down, even though she seems completely healthy because (since they are both house cats and very close) she will also be infected. Please can somebody tell me if there is some other option for her? What if she's immune or something? Please, please help.
3 AnswersCats7 years agoGoldfish related for anybody who helped me to help Scorch, especially Eduardo and Noselessman?
Thank you all very much for your help and advice. I was amazed how contradictory some can be as to which species can live together. My son is having his bedroom remodelled in a basically steampunk theme (with skylanders and minecraft worked in, my job apparently) so I'm going to ask my Dad to build a stand out of square piping (makes for nice strong welds) and extend the legs across the base of his cabinets, giving the tank extra strong support and the furniture and floor will have a more even weight distribution! Plus, it'll add to the steampunk look. Thank you so much for your help, from me and the person below. (Forgive the dingy, grainy picture, it's 3am and all I have is a small camera and an led bedside light.)
Oh, he's also taken to posing for the camera, look front, left, right, front.... He seemed most put out when I stopped!
1 AnswerFish7 years agoTwo goldfish questions, base/gravel substitute and companions?
I always feel sorry for my son's pet goldfish with the base of its tank covered in those horrible orange and white gravel bits. I wondered, would gemstone chips be a suitable substitute? They would look nice, reflect the light a bit and they are all natural.
My other question is, what is a suitable companion for a goldfish? (I said no to a goldfish originally as the tank is only just over 2 gallon. We were going to get a guppy or betta (sorry, I can never remember which one likes company) and three or four tetras but someone went and gave him TWO goldfish. To say I was angry would be an understatement.) We would have bought a bigger tank sooner but one of his fish died after a few months, when they were still small. Scorch, however, is still going strong and will be getting a new tank for Christmas. I'm hoping we'll be able to get one which is big enough for him to have a friend but obviously, NOT another goldfish.
He has a toy rhino which feels like stone but floats and he loves to push it into the corner the swim along the edge of the tank so he gets massaged by it. He'll do it over and over, or play with the air bubbler (which we had to move to the middle of the tank because he would get very frustrated that he couldn't swim through it.) He plays chase with your finger on the side of the glass and is, basically a very playful little fish. For that reason, I don't think he would do too well with a very timid breed, or something that doesn't move much. All ideas welcome!
6 AnswersFish7 years agoIs it normal for goldfish to play?
My son's goldfish seems to like to play. He loves his air bubbles turned up, he seems to like massaging his sides with them. He also enjoys popping them with his tail and he even swims into the bottom of the bubble stream, ride up, then it's over the bridge, under the tube and start over. We added some ceramic stones (baking stones) to his tank, just to give him a bit of difference in texture and he has carefully nudged them to one area of the tank then piled them in a little heap. He also has a plastic plant and a toy rhino which he plays with. He used to "sleep" under his bridge, now he sleeps under Rhino!
He also plays chase the finger if you draw patterns on his tank.
The only problem is, if he wants to play and it's night time, he'll head butt the side of the tank until someone responds. I'm terrified we'll find him dead one day.
Is this normal goldfish behaviour or do we just have a deranged fish? Or does anybody have any suggestions, does he want more toys or something? (He'll be getting a bigger tank at Christmas, he's a bit big for this one now, perhaps another fish for company? What small fish could live in with a goldfish?) Thanks for the help
3 AnswersFish7 years agoI want to compile a lost of songs for Halloween but I want them to be spooky and atmospheric, not the Monster Mash! Please help!?
As I mentioned, I really don't want jolly music like Monster Mash or Thriller (I like both songs but they don't fit the atmosphere I am wanting to create.)
Number one on my list, the creepiest song I can think of is "Under Your Thumb" by Godley and Creme.
I think the minimum scary level should be "Ghost Town" and I'm thinking that "A Whiter Shade of Pale" and "Hotel California" would probably fit somewhere in that range as well, not necessarily as eerie musically but seriously freaky lyrics. So please help, four songs isn't going to go very far but I know, out there on the net, there must be loads of people who can think of others. Thank you!
