  • Canon SL1 vs. Samsung NX300 - help choose?

They're both pretty small interchangeable lens cameras at roughly the same price from CMOS cameras. Ones mirrorless and the other a DSLR.

    What to choose and why?

  • Do the actors in the TV show Nashville really sing?

Just wondering in the actors and actresses of Nashville really sing the songs or do real singers do it and they're just lip sinking? If you can provide an answer along with the source of your information, not just a guess, I'd appreciate it for credibility.

  • Are creativity and innovation the same thing?

I got this answer wrong by answering FALSE. I feel that people can be creative but not all can be innovative... I feel that in innovation, you need creativity. But just because you are creative doesn't necessarily mean you can be innovative.

Please answer and if you can give me an "official" answer linked to some reputable source, then you'll for sure get the 10 points! haha... I need to email the professor and I need some evidence to back up my claim. Unless I am totally wrong???

  • Fluval Stratum: Rinse or not?

Picked up a bag of Fluval Stratum (regular, not shrimp version) for an upcoming planted tank project. I've been reading that some people rinse the hell out of it while others recommend not rinsing at all.

Anyone with experience with this substrate, please chime in. To rinse or not to rinse, that is the question

  • Help with Fluval 106 canister & Lily Pipes?

I'm getting a rimless tank and instead of following ADA tradition with an Eheim classic, i want to try the Fluval 106 canister. My concern is the black ribbed hosing that comes with the filter. I need some help in choosing hosing, reducers (if needed), understanding ID/OD (inside/outside diameter), and choosing nano lily pipes to fit the canister hosing and look size appropriate on a 6g rimless tank.

I sent an email to Hagen/Fluval and they responsed as follows:

    1. Are the black hoses that comes with the 106 interchangable with other hoses? Preferably transparent ones. I don't think the black hoses will look very nice on my setup and I would like to put on some clear hoses... what are the size hoses that I should get if this is possible?

**Answer: The rubber adapter that attaches to the hose is 12 mm, we suggest when buying the hosing to bring along the aqua stop.

I need help understanding which hosing to get and lily pipes that will be compatible with the Fluval 106. I'm thinking of the Cal Aqua Labs 13mm nano lily pipes or some cheaper alternatives from Ebay or Aquatic Magic (9mm or 13mm, don't know what fits)..

Plus i don't know about the response from Hagen.. Is 12 mm aqua stop adapter something that fits over a hose? So does that mean the outer diameter if a hose has to be 12mm? If that's the case, the inside diameter must be 9mm? As you can see, I'm confused.. Help

  • Minimum sized tank to breed Red Cherry Shrimp?

Thinking of buying a low iron frameless pico sized aquarium that's 4 gallons. It's that large enough to support a colony of RCS? Will they breed if other conditions are good?

  • Should I be able to blow air through a CO2 Ceramic Diffuser?

Just setup a DIY CO2 system for my planted tank. I mixed the yeast and sugar about 2 hours ago. I've been getting 1 bubble per second through the bubble counter. However, nothing through the Fluval CO2 Ceramic disk diffuser. This is my first attempt at co2 and I'm not sure if I have a clogged diffuser or do I just need to wait as pressure builds?

I tested the diffuser before I set things up by blowing through the airline tubing with the diffuser in the water. I couldn't blow air through and I thought maybe I just don't have the lung power. Should I be worried? Should I be patient or will the bottle explode?

It's a 1 liter smart water bottle btw.

    Thanks!

  • Liquid Plant Fertilizer Questions... please help!?

Starting a new planted tank. It's gonna be a mixture of low, moderate, and high light plants. It's a 12 gallon tank, 48w of lighting, and floramax substrate (similar to eco-complete or fluorite).

I added Flourish root tabs, a DIY CO2 injection system, and I have Flourish, and Excel for ferts.

The only thing I'm missing, I think, is potassium and iron (which is present in the root tabs in some degree). I was told by the guy at the local fish store that I should dose with pure potassium and iron.

Should I get a poduct like API Leaf Zone (which says it contains potassium and iron, not sure the concentration or if it's really diluted with only a trace) or Seachem Potassium (which seems fully concentrated)? How important is the potassium? I don't want to over fertilize my plants.. This whole business of ferts are a bit confusing so if someone can help me make sense of it all, that would be great!

  • Is DIY CO2 effective for planted tanks?

Just want to hear from those that have used it. Pros vs. Cons? I want a high tech pressurized system but don't want to spend that much cash right now. So how's the DIY CO2 work in your experience? Thanks!

  • Single Angelfish in 10 gallon TALL?

I know its recommend for angelfish to be in large aquariums, but I think its because most aquariums are much wider than they are tall. I have a 10 gallon that's 19" wide, 13" deep, and 21" tall... Would a single angel work in it?

  • Is the Intel Pentium B960 a decent processor?

Looking to get a sub $500 14" laptop for a niece that's going off to college. Not sure if the Intel Pentium B960 is a good processor? I think the primary purpose would be internet, email, word processing, a little photoshop, and streaming HD off the net. No hardcore gaming or anything. I know the i3, i5, etc. are better but also more money when they're in a laptop. So again... is the Intel Pentium B960 Processor 2.2GHz any good? Or is it so bad, I NEED to get an i3 system?

Other specs on this particular laptop that's running me about $469 (includes tax and ship) I'm looking at include:

*14-inch LED backlit display (native HD 720p)

*640 GB Serial ATA hard drive (5400 RPM)

    *4 GB installed RAM

    *Intel HD graphics

    *CD/DVD player/burner

    *Wireless-N Wi-Fi

    *HDMI output

*Up to 7.5 hours of use

  • Katana Sword Help. Looking for a durable and well-balanced Katana.?

I'm looking to get my first Katana for backyard cutting on mostly light to medium targets with the ability for hard targets (which I'd rarely do). My budget is the sub-$300 range. I've started my research already on the SBG website and I have narrowed down my search to some options. I'd like to hear some recommendations and experience please.

For the most part, I think I would prefer the "spring steel" type of blade for durability (9120, 5120, and 1060 spring). Most of my options are thoroughly hardened (TH) blades for durability as well. I'd like something as light a possible for faster performance and balance without sacrificing too much in durability.

    Here are my options:

    1. Dynasty Forge (DF) Musha Class w/ Bo-Hi -- (1060 spring steel)

    2. Ronin Dojo Pro (model 1 or 4) -- (1060 TH steel, no bo-hi option)

    3. Hanwei Raptor (Shinogi Zukuri or Unokubi Zukuri) -- (5160 steel)

    4. Cheness Kaze -- (this is deferentially hardened but has a great natural Hamon, however, not as durable).

  • Help me decide, shotty or rifle?

Okay... so I'll have roughly $600 to spend (give or take ~$50) in the next few months. I have a few pistols (for defense) but now I want one of two things, a rifle (for fun plinking) or a shotgun (for home defense). I'll eventually have both, but not for a while. And a real-deal 5.56 caliber AR way down the road (this obviously cost a lot more so it will have to wait).

If you were me... would you get the Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 MOE version with the Magpul PTS Stock and folding battle sights? OR, would you get the Mossberg 930 SPX??? I do realize that the Mossberg is more expensive (roughly ~$100 more) but I would make the difference up on the M&P 15-22 with accessories like an optic and a vertical foregrip.

I'm thinking, do I go with the M&P 15-22 for fun shooting with out breaking the bank? I mean, you can buy a ton of .22LR ammo for dirt cheap and I can just imagine the fun in shooting for an extended amount of time at a relative low cost. OR, do I go for a sweet semi-auto shotgun as the Mossberg 930 SPX for power and devastation? I shot my friend's Rem 870 express at the range and it was a lot of fun to shoot too! It's definitely a different experience than shooting my .40 for example. But I know the major downside is that the shells aren't cheap like .22LR. But, the shotgun seems more practical for those just in case situations.

Dilemmas!!!! PLEASE weigh in your vote and help me decide! 10 Points to the best answer and reasoning behind it.... THANKS! And happy and "safe" shooting! Haha1 day ago - 3 days left to answer.

  • What Pepper Spray is best? Sabre vs. OC17 Magnum?

Comparing Sabre and Police Magnum OC-17 on Amazon.

It appears that Sabre is a mixed Formula of pepper spray (no indication of the concentration), its tear gas, and uv dye. While from how I think I understand it is that the Police MAGNUM OC-17 has the highest concentration (allowed by law) of pepper. I think there's pros and cons to either formula. But which is overall better and why?

  • Why is the Navy Colt called "Navy"?

Why was the old long colt called "Navy Colt" when (I think) the pistol was used primarily by everyone but the Navy in the 19th century? I think the Navy in those days did t even carry sidearms for the most part (correct me if I'm wrong). Thanks!

  • Taurus TCP .380 - Good or Bad?

I'm in the market for a pocket .380 and I REALLY like the Kahr p380 but do not want to spend that much on a .380. So that leaves me with a few options. The Ruger LCP, Kel-Tec, and the Taurus TCP. I really like the "good" reviews that I'm reading, like nice & smooth DA trigger pull and the slide locks in the back position after that last round is shot. Not to mention the lifetime repair guarantee that Taurus offers. And the fact that this particular .380 is made here in the USA!

HOWEVER, there are some reviews (written and on youtube) that complain of failure to feed/eject problems. I hope this is NOT a reflection on the quality of work in America! LOL... I'm just wondering if the people complaining of these issues are early adopters of this pistol because most new pistols (I believe this is 2 years old or more now) have their bugs in the first few runs. Also, perhaps these new gun owners of the TCP didn't read the instructions carefully and clean the gun properly prior to first use. And to use factory ammo and not some cheap reloads or something.

I WOULD like to know if you own this pistol (or have owned it) and what are your thoughts and experience with it.

    THANKS for the help!
