♥≈Safi≈♥ ☼of the Atheati☼
Hi, I'm Safi. I'm a sick old lady, so be nice to me. I am ordained by the Church of the Latter-Day Dude (www.dudeism.com). I'm an atheist (humanist?) with a few pagan tendencies. My husband and kids are Muslim.
Baby car seats and travel to Africa - Parents, please advise?
In August, my son and I will be traveling to Ghana. He will be 19 months old, around 25 pounds, I'm guessing.
We will have a car in Ghana. My questions are,
1. Is it likely that I'll be able to find a carseat THERE that I can use, or should I bring my own; and
2. Can I use a toddler booster seat, or do I have to stay with the infant carseat he's using here? A booster seat is easier since it doesn't have to be "installed." I don't know if the cars there have "Latch" systems or not... I rather doubt it...
If anyone has any experience or advice in this area, I'd love to hear it.

3 AnswersOther - Destinations1 decade agoWhat can I do in Casablanca with a baby?
I have an eleven hour layover in Casablanca before I continue on to my destination (Ghana). I'll be traveling alone with my 19-month-old son.
The layover is from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. I'll probably just stay at the airport... is there any place where I can take a nap? A restaurant where I can get some Bastilla and sit for a very lonnnng time?
Any other suggestions?
4 AnswersMorocco1 decade agoBirds in Ghana? Tell me what kind of bird I saw?
When I was in Accra in 2003, I saw a lot of these big black and white birds standing around on the ground. They flew, too, but mostly I saw them just standing around. They were big birds, bigger than chickens.
No one I asked had any idea what they were. Any ideas? I looked at all the "birds of Ghana" listed on Wikipedia, and didn't see the one I was looking for. The closest thing I found was maybe the cane vulture, but I don't think the birds I saw looked like vultures.
I'm going again in August...
2 AnswersOther - Africa & Middle East1 decade agoDo I have to ask forgiveness for 1 sin or 2?
Here's what happened. My friend, Gary, wanted to go to this steak restaurant, the Brown Angus. He said he wanted to steal the "G" off the sign on the roof. So we went out at about 3 am one day last week and pried it off with a crowbar.
I knew that was a sin (vandalism), but I thought Gary only wanted it because it was his initial. Later, though, when I looked at the sign, I realized it spelled something kind of bad.
I know I have to ask God to forgive me for the vandalism, but since I didn't know that the word ANGUS without the G would be that word, do I have to get forgiveness for that too? Is it *really* a very bad word? I'm just not sure.
Serious answers only, please.

7 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoAre Amish women oppressed?
They wear head coverings similar to those the Muslim women wear. What's the difference?
Here's a photo of some Amish girls.

If you assume that Muslim women wear hijabs because they are oppressed, do you assume the same of Amish women?
Or do you believe they simply do it because of their religion?
30 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoI want to name my baby girl Lula Tallulah Nevaeh, do you like that name?
My grandmother's name was Tallulah, and I think "Lula Tallulah" has a wonderful ring to it. My husband likes Nevaeh, because it's "heaven" spelled backwards.

11 AnswersAlternative Fuel Vehicles1 decade agoWould this be a sin for my husband? Would he go to hell?
Sometimes after we fight, I'm tempted to go out and buy some non-halal beef, or possibly ground pork, and make tacos for my husband (he's Muslim). How would this affect him, spiritually? Would he go to hell?
I don't worry about hell for myself, since I'm an atheist.
13 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIs this the "Psychic" section? Why do people come here to ask questions directed at psychics?
Do they think we're psychic? Who are the questions directed to? Do they think the witches and pagans are psychic? The Christians? Agnostics?
Do they ever get the answers they're looking for?
12 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoChristians: Do you hate your family? In "Luke," Jesus says you should, right?
In Luke 14:26, Jesus says "If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple."
So, to be a disciple of Jesus, you have to hate yourself, your parents, siblings, spouse, and children.

Just have a drink? No Pascal, no "why are there still monkeys," no "what if you're wrong" ?
Coke Zeros, all around. Unless you'd rather have something else!
14 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy would anyone worship a Golden Calf?
I don't know much about this story, other than it's in the Bible and it upset God somehow, supposedly.
But seriously, why WOULD someone worship a Golden Calf? Did it represent a specific deity? Was it symbolic of something?
And, why would someone make a CALF out of GOLD in the first place?
And, was it named Mooby?
