  • Will turn signal/headlights in 1998 Nissan Sentra still work if the selector is broken?

Basically, the selector is not broken totally off, but resting at downward angle to the floor. I need to know if it's possible to still use the headlights and turn signals or if the signal wand being broken will break that connection.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Creative Party Game Ideas For Grown-Ups?

I'm not looking for anything X-rated so please only serious, mature answers.

I'm throwing a party this weekend to celebrate my 30th birthday and I'd like to have some kind of game or activity that can involve everyone there. I don't want people to have to gather together to play.

Example: Sticking a name-tag on everyone's back when they show up with the name of someone famous on it--the other guests treat them like that person until they figure out who they are.

Just trying to find a way to create an entertaining undercurrent that can last through the whole party.

Any serious suggestions would be wonderful. Thanks.

  • The beginning of my story, what do you think?

When I was seven years old my mother committed suicide in front of me. I had been watching Saturday morning cartoons in the living room when she called out my name.

    “Edna. Come here.”

I stood and set my half-eaten Froot Loops on the end table. The bathroom door was slightly cracked and I could see steam curling it's fingers around the edges.

“Yeah?” I said as I pushed the door open.

She lay submerged to the chin in the bathtub. I stared in wonder at her nakedness. I'd never really seen a naked person before and found myself mystified by the differences between us. My body was straight and without definition where hers was curvy and soft. My secret places were as bald as the desert earth where hers harbored jungles of dark hair. The skin of her breasts shone angrily, scalded by the steaming water.

The rim of the tub was covered in broken shards of pink plastic from the shaver she'd mangled. She slowly turned her head and looked at me.

“Edna, tell your father his supper is in the oven.”

She reached into the mess of broken plastic and rummaged until she found a tiny, twisted shard of razor. Her thumbs cried large, lazy drops of blood from the cuts she'd given herself trying to free the small piece of metal. She didn't seem to notice. I couldn't take my eyes off of them as they fell into the water, tiny thunderheads swirling.

“Where will you be, Mommy?” I asked, confused. She smiled at me.

“Wherever it is, dear, I hope they have room-service.” She chuckled lightly and jabbed the twisted razor into her wrist, opening the flesh down to her elbow like a curtain, exposing the strange and mysterious world inside. Before her blood even began pouring darkly forward, she had lain open the other arm.

  • What is this book series?

I'm trying to remember a series of books that I liked when I was a kid. At least, I think they were a series. Anyway. There was definitely at least one book with various short stories of mysteries being solved, a la Encyclopedia Brown. In this case, it was a group of kids, maybe four or five, boys and girls, and the name of the books was the name they'd sort of given themselves, an acronym that I think stood for the character's names. Ring a bell to anyone?? Let me know ... thanks!!

  • How do I get the smell of pee out of everything?

My girlfriend's family is cleaning their house for a christmas party tomorrow and they have three dogs and three cats. They've been cleaning like crazy but they can't get the smell of pee out. They aren't gross people, they just can't keep track of all the little pet accidents. Does anyone know any way to get the pee smell out? Steam cleaning has almost made it worse.

  • Would anyone else like to have a 24 hour "Twilight"-Free Period?

Listen. I understand that everyone is very excited about "Twilight". How could I not understand? I'm inundated with it on a daily basis. If I want to discuss interesting books, it's the only book anyone wants to talk about. If I want to discuss interesting films, it's the only film anyone wants to talk about. It doesn't matter where I go, the only topic of discussion seems to be "Twilight"! So listen, I don't care if "Twilight" is the best book/movie that has ever graced the human periphery, it is STILL not interesting enough eclipse all other forms of literature and film, okay?

    That said:

Film adaptations of literature- what's your favorite and why?
