My name is Patrick. I'm 27 now, but before I was born, God decided exactly what I was going to be - I am a teacher by design, a coach by name, and a trailblazer in all things. I am engaged to the most amazing woman on this planet, my best friend, my crown, Susan. I play guitar and sing, I love board games and video games, cooking is a delight to me, and I'd rather be at home with my family than anywhere else. I believe that I have found the secret to really living, and it's something along the lines of investing in things that will last - everyone invests their time and energy in something, and the people that invest that time and energy into the people that are around them are almost always the happiest. I have a brain wired for discovering and synthesizing information, and this seems like a good place to do that at - I am open at all times to any inquiries about anything! I want to invest, and to make an impact, and I want to encourage you to do the same!

  • Does the phrase "I can show you what I believe by what I do" (more)?

imply that it's fairly easy to see what someone believes based on what they do?

For example, (and I know a chair is such a cliche example, but bear with me) if I see someone sit in a chair, it tells me that they believe the chair isn't going to crash to the floor (and of course, I could probably go all convoluted with this, but I think you get my point)

    Any thoughts on this?

  • Is Jesus an archangel?

I know some people that believe that Jesus and Michael are the same person. Is this true?

Can anyone tell me where this belief comes from?

  • Is the Gospel of Thomas historically accurate?

Can anyone address this or point me in the right direction without dismissing it outright because it's not in the Bible or because it has the word 'gospel' in the title?

  • Borderline Personality Disorder question?

I have Borderline Personality Disorder, and I have found that a 2nd-plateau dose of dextromethorphan with grapefruit juice (thereby inhibiting the metabolism of dxm to dextrorphan, which causes all kinds of psychotomimetic effects) helps immensely in prompting me to actually 'care' so to speak - has anyone else tried this or knows someone who has and can lend some insight?

  • As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another?

If two men sharpen each other (say, there are two musicians with different styles and they were trying to learn from each other) in much the same way that iron sharpens iron (the picture is a knife scraping against a whetstone or grinding wheel or something of that nature), then would it be fair to say that they make each other better by competing, and therefore help each other? So that cooperation and competition are both present and beneficial?

Okay, so with that being said, and assuming for the sake of argument that two men sharpen each other by competing against one another, can anyone tell me an effective way for a woman to sharpen a man?

  • Would it be legal to work for a company for free?

I know that a lot of hospitals and the like doing internships, but what about in other industries? Like, I really, really, really, really wanna work at sonic. I told him today that I would work for him for free! (Hey, I've worked for free before in prison) I can do it, and actually feel good about myself. Of course, once we saw me with a foot in the door, he'd never wanna let me go - I just wanna get a foot in the door! I'd be willing to work there for free until his profits go up and he could pay me.

Are there any illegalities about it?

It's not like I'm working and not getting paid, I just want to pitch in and help

  • Can someone help me out with this?

So my birthday was last Monday (7/23) - I had told my fiancee (Sue) about a month beforehand that there was a book that I'd like for my birthday, and that was about it. I was out of town for my birthday, but she told me that she'd ordered the book (from Amazon, I believe - this was about a week ago). She's still staying with her parents, and I asked her mom (Shel) the other day (cuz her phone is on the schiz right now) if she knew if the book had ever come in. She said no. Today, Sue asks me what my favorite cake is. Later, while we were in class, I ask her if that book ever came in, and she tells me she was wanting to hold off on giving it to me til Sunday. She's also been talking the last few days about getting her mom to go to an open mic thing with us Sunday.

Long story short, my fiancee appears to be planning a surprise birthday party, and I think she's already given away too much - how do I honor her effort and sincerity without being fake about it? Any ideas?

  • Is acting surprised at a surprise party you know is happening dishonest?

  • My cat is scared of everything?

I've got this Siamese mix, almost a year old (halloween is her birthday :p) and for the first six months or so of her life she was in a house with 3 full grown cats (one of which was her mom) and 4 dogs - a collie, a chihuahua, a golden retriever, and a pit bull. She got along very well with all of them, playing and all, except for one of the other cats (an old cat that thinks it's destiny is to be eaten, apparently).

We recently moved, and my roommate has 5 kids, and now Casper (the cat) stays in my room all the time except at night. That's understandable enough, it's unfamiliar territory to her - but even when it's just me and her in my room with the door shut, she still hides! She's not hiding from me, I'll go find her and take her to the bed and she'll lay there with me for hours - but if I don't directly intervene, she spends all of her time hiding. Then about 2 weeks ago, my roommate got 2 kittens for the kids, and she's scared of the kittens too! When I have the door open, they'll just walk right up in there (like kittens tend to do) and so I'll pick Casper up and put her in front of them, telling her to run them off, but they'll do the whole arched back and raised hackles thing and she'll run away from them! She's easily 4 times their size! I remember that the cat that didn't get along with her at our old house would do the same thing, and Casper would chase her around - she was almost bullying her!

Like I said, I can understand the running from the kids and staying in my room, but I don't understand why she hides all the time in there, and I certainly don't understand why she'd be afraid of the two kittens! Any ideas?

  • Why can't I ask a thought-provoking question here without being condemned for it?

I mean, really, what's up with everyone here? Here's a question I asked the other day: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ArGZQ...

and all the answers are something along the lines of "you're overthinking it" or "you're just trying to make god look bad and you look good"

None of which, obviously, answer the question. I don't know, it's like if there's not an obvious answer to a question, then no one here wants to touch it? I'm here asking questions that I'm really curious about, but everyone seems so focused on their personal agenda that the time is not being taken to actually consider the question. What gives? Anyone else frustrated by this?

  • Why so much emphasis on proof around here?

I may have it a little twisted because I come from a more mathematical background, but it seems to me that is something has been proven or disproven, there's no more room for argument. Like, when I tell you that 2+2=4, and then I show you with apples that 2+2=4, there's no room for argument anymore. (more complex examples can be supplied if needed, this is just for illustrative purposes) I mean, sure, you can argue it, but even you know it's not right and you're not arguing for the sake of truth anymore.

It just seems to me that proof about something would eliminate all doubt, yet I see people constantly claiming they have proof or they can prove it or it's been disproven. I mean, we can't even get proof "beyond a reasonable doubt" here!

  • NickInTexas: Can you elaborate on this for me?

lol this one's for Nick, but if anyone else wants to chime in, feel free

Nick, you said in an answer a few minutes ago that "Human life is recursive. In other words, all the information to create a living organic machine is coded up in your DNA including the information on how to code it up correctly, decode it and where to store it so it can be passed on to the next generation"

This is a very interesting concept to me, and I wish to learn more about it, can you help me out? Send me somewhere to read about this? I'm quite curious.

  • Was God telling them to sin? (Round 2)?

I think I worded my question a little wrong whileago!

What I was saying, was that in one sentence he's saying *anyone* who sheds another man's blood will be killed by another man, and then in the next sentence he says to shed another man's blood if they shed someone else's, so it's like, if Bob kills Jerry (let's say in cold blood, and not justice), then Drew will kill Bob - shouldn't Jimmy be coming along soon to kill guy Drew? Does this open up some kind of karmic chain that can never be broken? what's the deal here? any thoughts on this? I'm not trolling, i'm actually curious
