How can I convince my dad to neuter our dog?
We have an American Pit Bull Terrier.
wait, let me say that again. American Pit Bull Terrier.
And my dad doesn't want to neuter him.
I've tried to tell him the benefits of neutering. Less aggression, no risk of cancer, no piddling everywhere, no humping everything under the sun, etc-etc. I've also tried to explain to him that it doesn't make them fat, lazy, less of a male, sad, I could go on. But he just says "it's a man thing" or "it's too much money." When I come back with "real men neuter" or "you can get discounts if you go to the right place," he comes back with "I don't want to." If I say anything else after, there is going to be an argument.
It's just, ugh. I mean if we're going to have an apbt then obviously we need to get him neutered. I'm lucky I convinced my dad to help me train him. And no, I'm not paranoid of them or anything. I know they can be good nice dogs if raised right, but the key phrase there is if raised right. And I think that part of raising a dog in today's world is to get it fixed.
I suppose some of you are wondering "oh, well why can't your mom just take him to the vet?" and the answer there is that she doesn't care. She considers him "your dad's dog." I'm not complaining about her because dad was the one to get him, so I think he should be the one to neuter him if mom won't.
And yes I know, families like mine probably shouldn't even have a dog. I mean, ->raizn dawgz, we're doin it wrong<-. But I know one thing I won't be able to do is to get dad to get rid of him, and I want to keep him too. Right now the problem is neutering, help please? :)
PS. I know this was long and got rant-ish at points. thanks for reading~
11 AnswersDogs1 decade agoDid my cat just have a seizure?
My cat started twitching just a little at first, like a dreaming dog. I thought she was just dreaming about something. But then the twitches got more violent until her whole body was shaking. I stroked her to see if she was just having a nightmare, but she didn't wake up. After a few seconds I realized she may be having a seizure, so I pulled one of her eyelids up a bit, and her eye was completely rolled back in her head. I don't really know what happened after that, it's 1 am and I was thrown into a panic after seeing her eye like that. But the next thing I know she's alright. She just went back to sleep and gave me an annoyed look when I woke her up to check on her.
She's kind of an old cat. But what I read online just now about cats having seizures doesn't match up in some places. It's not like she was flailing around the room, and she wasn't nervous or restless before or after the supposed seizure, but then again she didn't seem to respond to me rubbing her, and that eye being in the back of her head was just... very creepy. ):
4 AnswersCats1 decade agoWhat kind of beetle is this?
I have two beetles that I found in a tree stump. They're black, and a little over 1 inch long. They're heads are small, and closely connected to their torso. Their abdomen is about half the length of their body, and has little lines running through it from front to back. It's not as closely connected as the head, but it's still close. There is a little orange-red band where the torso connects to the abdomen. They have big jaws, and far-set eyes. Their antenna seem to be under the eyes, and are really close to the eyes, but jut out and then turn to the front. they have little things on the end that look like tooth-brush bristles.
Um, they're shiny for a beetle, I think. And their torso has a deep line that runs the same way as the abdomen line.
2 AnswersZoology1 decade agoWeird purple vein on my Leo's belly?
So, I know about impaction in Leopard Geckos and stuff, but all I've heard is that it happens if their belly turns black.
For the past few days, my Leopard Gecko has gone off eating. Today, I picked him up to see, and he had this huge purple vein that kind of looked like a Y on his belly. I mean, does he have impaction, or maybe something worse?
I did notice that his poo had whole parts of food in it, like a mutant-looking half digested cricket, and the rear half of a mealworm among a few other small things. When I watched him try to eat a cricket he seemed sort of wobbly and off his game.
Is it worth taking him to a vet, you think? I've discussed it with my mom before, and she says we don't have the money, but she and I both know that if it was spending some or him dying, we would take him to the vet.
Thanks for reading, I'm worried and stuff so this was kind of unorganized. ;(
2 AnswersReptiles1 decade agoCan you cover a Tech Deck with clear nail polish?
One of my guy friends asked me to make him a custom Tech Deck, but I've heard that sharpies won't stay on the underside of the board. Can I solve the problem of it wearing off by putting a coat of clear nail polish on it?
Thanks. :)
1 AnswerHobbies & Crafts1 decade agoBerries in Pokemon Diamond?
Okay these two questions may be sorta stupid, but I feel too lazy to get my instruction book out, and Google didn't bring anything up.
When you move while watering the berries, does that mean that all of them are being watered?
And
If you plant a berry in an area that rains, will the berry stay watered?
Thanks. :)
1 AnswerVideo & Online Games1 decade agoHow should I react to this?
Well, yesterday my dad and I went to stare loony Christmas shoppers in the eye to find the perfect gifts for my mom. So today, I tell her that I want to go shopping with her for dad. What does she say? "Oh, I'll just pick him up something on the way home, you don't have to go." So I'm thinking, okay.. Maybe she just wants to get him something herself. She gets home and all she has for him is some new socks. That's it. Seriously?
I don't know, it's just I feel like she backed out on me about shopping for my dad. And avoided coming home before she went to get him something.
At first I wasn't going to make such a big deal out of it, but then I had to go under the tree to get my cat to stop messing with ornaments and I saw the socks wrapped up. No bow, no name tag, just a clumsily wrapped package with 'DAD' (really, she doesn't even write his name?) written in barely visible marker that she didn't even bother to box. We have boxes, so it really shouldn't have been that hard to put in a box.
And I sat there holding it and felt like crying. ***I know Christmas isn't all about the gifts***, but come on. We don't have any money problems or anything. So I talk to her about it and our conversation went something like this.
Me: So you know all dad got was one gift...
Mom: Really..?
Me: Yeah, and it's socks.
Mom: Ha ha, well how many did I get?
Me: Nine.
Mom: Well good~
Me: ...
And then I just lef the room. She doesn't feel the slightest bit upset that we gave our sweat and blood to get her gifts and all she has in return is some socks? How should I handle this?
By the way, I can't drive, so I couldn't have gone to pick my dad up anything by myself.
And, their marriage isn't what you call good, so I guess it's sorta expected. But come on, it's Christmas! And at least my dad put up some effort and didn't seem to **want** to be mean.
PS: I know this was really long, when I'm upset I tend to write lengthy stories and mess. If you've read all of it, thank you.
4 AnswersChristmas1 decade agoCan Beagles be running dogs?
Just wondering. I tried to run with my 4 year old Beagle named Miloh today, and he just tripped along until we stopped running. He was under my feet and everything, and I nearly fell a few times. Is there a way to train Beagles to run, or are they just not good for being running dogs like some breeds are? I know you have to train any dog to run, but will a Beagle ever catch on to it, and are there any problems Beagles can get from running too much?
6 AnswersDogs1 decade agoI'm scared to run outside?
No really, I'm scared to go outside and run because I think people will snicker looking through their windows and whatnot, and say "Oh look at that fat kid trying to loose weight harharhar."
I know that sounds really stupid, but I'm dead serious. What can I do to quit thinking that? I mean, I know they probably aren't really going to make fun of me, and if they do then I'll never know about it, but that thought is keeping me from going outside and running around. And I actually want to go outside, I'm not just making up an excuse for being lazy. How do I stop thinking that thought?
13 AnswersDiet & Fitness1 decade agoDoes the Truth About Abs book realllly work?
No really, does it? I'm skeptic and biased from all the fad diets out there, and those little things that pop up that say "WAIT, are you sure you want to leave, this is a good product, please stay pleeaaseee. Press cancel to stay on the page, press ok to leave," don't really help me believe that it works. And, I think I may be a bit too young to worry about my body (13), but I'd rather be healthy then unhealthy. So, if you've used this e-book, tell me if it worked for you or if it didn't work for you, or if you feel like it's a scam.
1 AnswerDiet & Fitness1 decade agoDo you think it's reasonable to get suspended for Clapping?
Out of school suspension for clapping in the lunchroom, trying to have a bit of harmless fun. The worst anyone got hurt was red hands from clapping so hard.
I mean, think about it. How does this sound?
Person 1: Hey man what'd you do to get suspended.
Person 2: I beat someone up. What'd you do?
Person 1: Started clapping...
Sorta silly, no?
Just tell me if you think it's reasonable, because this happened to my friend.
7 AnswersEtiquette1 decade agoAnother squirrel in need of help?
I'm developing a habit of finding hurt squirrels! Now we found a baby, still pink. We have it warm and it's fully alive, but it's hungry and we don't know how to feed it.
Another problem? There aren't any rehabilitation centers close enough to satisfy my parents. The one close to us either closed or something went wrong, because we can't contact it.
So, I'm going at this without the help of any in the flesh professionals. But maybe you guys can help me. CoughYepcough.
PS: Please guys, if you're going to post an "Oh it's going to die, just put it out of its friggin misery and kill it," just, don't. This is not a question asking how to kill a baby squirrel. Would you do that to your child if they were on the brink of death? Just tell the doctors to let him go, or plead for them do do whatever possible to let him stay alive. All life deserves to live. POWER TO THE PEOPLE. Ok now that I'm through with my little moment there, happy answering.
2 AnswersZoology1 decade agoAnother Snapping Turtle Question?
I'm hearing that it costs $700+ for the upkeep of a common snapping turtle, but then I'm hearing that you can put them in a $6 hard plastic kiddie pool with plants on the floor of it. Which one is the "right" one? o_o
And also, is there any way to tell a Snapper's age? I'm guessing it's size, but I don't know how to convert size into age.
Help? T-T
7 AnswersReptiles1 decade agoWhat should I do with a small Snapping Turtle?
My dad found a small (AKA not Alligator) Snapping Turtle on the road. The road he found it on was not near any body of water. What is the basic care for a Snapping Turtle? I've heard if you release animals back into the wild in a place other then near where you found them, they have less then a 50% chance of living past a day. Not sure how true that is, but still. Dad's been picking it up by the tail, but is there a better way to pick it up then that? I don't see any worms on it right now.
3 AnswersReptiles1 decade agoSquirrel hit but not dead, HELP.?
I found a squirrel that is hurt, but not dead. He's about to die so I'm making this short. It's bleeding from the mouth and one eye a bit, breathing fast, etc. The hind legs seem to be useless. I have it in a box with a towel over it. What should I do?!
