Why do the liberals and the Democratic party continue to support a philosophy that .....?

Says that the Government knows what is better for the individual than the individual knows what is good for himself/herself?
I don't mind smart-a s s responses, but please give a reason that is convincing rather than the same old tired garbage!

Wow - I shouldn't be, but I'm really floored at the answers you've had so far.

Let's see - smoking bans - liberals. I don't smoke, and I think it's a NASTY habit, but I do *not* think the government should be telling businesses that can not allow their customers to use a legal substance such as tobacco.

Spanking ban - California, of course - and a Democrat, of course. So I guess the new liberal battle cry is, "Keep the gov't out of our bedrooms! But invite them into the family room." It's not like some *** who abuses his kids is suddenly going to stop because of this ban - it's just BS to make someone feel important.

Trans-fat bans - I admit I could be wrong here, but I'm pretty sure (don't want to look it up - don't care enough) that the Democrats are the big pushers of this, too.

So *who* tries to run your lives? It sure as hell isn't the conservatives - we expect you to take care of yourself.

traditionally African human beings in the North supported Republicans. this is using Lincoln (A Republican) emancipating slaves during the Civil conflict. additionally traditionally African human beings from the South did no longer get the possibility to vote as there have been too many men in white hoods burning crosses on their lawns on polling day for that to be a secure option. during the 1950's and 1960's using fact the Civil Rights circulate became further and extra the reason celebre of the Democratic party African American electorate have been attracted to the party. many of the extra youthful college pupils who got here to do voter registration drives have been Democrats so there become a organic gravitation in the direction of what become seen using fact the party of probability. Bobby Kennedy become a maximum appropriate determine in this Civil Rights activism in the Democratiic party yet there have been others in the past him. Many in demand Republicans additionally supoorted Civil Rights and many Southern Democrats have been intractibly antagonistic to it so the courting is complicated and layered. probably it become Bobby Kennedy who indelibly stamped the Dems using fact the party of Civil Rights. He earned massive very own know among the black community for shifting freely interior of black neighbourhoods and for his fearless pursuit of legislative authority for Civil Rights. i think that Martin Luther King, however a private pal of Bobby Kennedy's become certainly a Republican. yet i'm not sure of that actuality so please do no longer howl me down. that's something I bear in concepts analyzing some time past.

A presumptuous statement, to be sure.

Supporting a government that offers social assistance does not mean supporting a government that claims to know better than the individual what is right for them.

I want a government that works for ME, not themselves. I want to know that my tax dollars are being spent to make MY life better - not theirs. I want to elect a government that will put the people first, rather than those of other countries. And if I find a candidate that will offer that, I will vote for them...no matter the party.

I don't know of one liberal that thinks the government knows what's best for the individual. Most liberals I know are not against gay marriage. Many liberals are pro choice but most conservatives aren't. These are just 2 examples of conservatives trying to control individuals right to choose how to live their lives. These are very personal, private issues the government should stay out of. I'm not going to be a smart @ss, there's enough of that nastiness on this forum.

You mean like the government telling people they can't have an abortion instead of leaving it up to the individual or outlawing gay marriage? I don't think that is a liberal stance. The fact is that both parties want governemtn to interfere in people's lives as long as it agrees with their beliefs.
