Dude! did you take her to the hospital??? you should be asking this to a doctor! not askinng this here...i hope they're ok.. :\
The amniotic fluid is there to protect the baby from infection. My waters broke at 28 weeks ( i know this is quite a lot later ) then i had my son at 32 weeks. With little fluid around your baby the risk of getting an infection is very high. The fact that your baby is only 18 weeks makes the risks higher than when my waters broke. Your gf should be kept in hospital to monitor the baby should anything happen. The amniotic fluid will be replaced but obviously not as much as was there before the waters broke. Just because your gf's waters have broken does not mean the baby must be delivered. I managed to hold on for just over a month and my son was born at 32 weeks with no problems at all The highest risk to your baby is the risk of infection especially at being only 18 weeks The one thing i remember from when it happened to mean is to keep hygiene levels very high!! Do not let her take a bath, instead she must take a quick shower If she is wearing pads to control the waters they muct be changed pretty much all the time ( every hour or so ) Just basically do anything to stop infection getting in
The docs will be doing blood tests to check if her infection markers are raised. I know its hard not to worry but if shes in hospital shes in the best place
Once waters have broken you are increasingly with each hour more and more prone to infection. Without water around the baby the chances are not good I'm afraid to say. There is no child that can survive at 18 weeks gestation and if somehow the doctors can maintain the pregnancy for another 5/6 weeks the baby then has some chance of survival. Did she have any pains before hand? Did she feel the membranes of the babies sack bulging before they ruptured? Was there no pain before the waters broke? If so she could possibly have a condition known as incompetent cervix. This is when the cervix is not strong enough to hold the pregnancy the heavier the baby gets. If there was no pain and pressure like her membranes bulging then this could be what has happened. There can be measures taken for this condition but sadly not after waters have broken. Take her straight to your doctor and good luck.
I have not, but my friend has. Her water broke at 15 weeks. She stayed in the hospital for the rest of her 25 weeks. But, the good news is she delivered a HEALTHY baby girl. Her little girl is 6 now and has no problems what so ever, other than being spoiled.
i had this at 26 weeks and they managed to stop the labour even though my waters had broken but survival rates are pretty good these days its amazing what hospitals can do, try not to stress too much im sure everything will be fine, your baby will spend a bit of time in a humidicrib with lots of tubes but im sure everything will work out. Good luck i wish u all the best keep us posted
