Where can I learn how to garden at a reasonable price around Los Angeles/Glendale/Pasadena area?

I don't know anything about gardening and don't know anyone who does it. Where can I take classes that start at an absolute basic level and cover everything I need to know to start my own vegetable/herb garden? Even the arboretum doesn't have classes like these.

Contct you local Cooperative Extension office. They are a branch of universities. They will have all the info you could ever possibly need.
