the sports light is an indication that the electronic control system for the transmission has detected a problem with the system. There are about 15 different potential causes but if it happens when your speedometer needle starts to bounce the problem is almost certainly with the vehicle speed sensor.

the vehicle speed sensor is mounted on top of the transmission. It serves two purposes. the first is to send a signal to the speedometer that is converted to the speed that the speedometer displays through the gauge cluster.

the second function is to give the control unit information on vehicle speed so that the cotnrol unit knows when to shift the automatic transmission.

in your case, the speed sensor is dropping out and the speedo needle bounces when it loses and regains the signal from the sensor. the S light is on because the powertrain control unit is losing the signal from the vehicle speed sensor as well.

I'm sure you'll find that if you replace the vehicle speed sensor both the problem with the S light and the speedometer needle bounce will go away.

hope that helps
