You are correct. The planet is certainly getting warmer relative to the last few decades and centuries (at least since humans began recording the temperature of the Earth). The science is clear on this, and even most conservatives have accepted this as fact. The new argument, however, is that global warming or "climate change" is a "natural phenomena", and has nothing to do with pollution or carbon emissions caused by us, humans. In other words, the Earth is "supposed to be" getting warmer, so what me worry? Ultimately, it is all about money and politics. If government policies are made based on the belief we need to control carbon emissions, that is going to cost some big companies a lot of money. In any case, the evidence does suggest that the Earth is changing, and maybe changing faster than we would like. Hopefully, we, and future generations, will be ready for it....Show more

No. I do not believe it for two reasons. First and most obvious, are the record daily high/low temps taken since the 1850s. If we were steadily increasing our global temps, they would reflect that. Now I understand that some scientists have said this is what is happening, but the records simply do not back this up! For such an obvious tool, you would think they would have thought to include it. The next reason is that I lived through the "the next ice age is upon us," scare of the 70's. Back then scientists were positive, beyond any shadow of doubt that we were blindly heading for a new ice age. At that time records showed we were consistently having colder and colder years. But...what do you know, no ice age. And guess what" There wouldn't be any climate changing global warming either....Show more

The Professor is right. There is ample evidence to suggest that the earth is subject to warming in cycles. Some is due to 'wobble' in the earth's axis. Some is due to volcanic activity, and some is due to anthropogenic (human-caused) sources.

The question becomes how much influence the man-made sources are causing. Perhaps we are accelerating a natural cycle.

Still, it is a measurable phenomenon. Politically speaking, it is advantagous to focus on the here and now, and less on the future. It has always been easier to stick our heads in the sand, even more given the uncertain weight of man's impact on the problem.

I believe in Global Warming, there is no denying that it's real. However it's a natural occurrence. The warming and cooling of the earth are natural. The mean temperature HAS NOT deviated since 1998. So where is the "global" warming?

Now the wiping out of the rain forests and the trees globally is a big problem. Also our energy consumption and emissions are a big problem, however on the grand scheme of things it's minimal when talking about global warming. Yes, we need to be more environmentally friendly but saying that we are causing it is unfounded in my opinion.

If you want someone who is right on, it's Harrison Ford and the effects of deforestation. Al Gore is a moron looking to make bank with his carbon credits crap and he is also a hypocrite....Show more

How arrogant "man" is, to think that "he" is so important and all powerful, that "he" can actually control the earth's environment. Earth is 4.5 billion years old, roughly one third through it's life. The sun has approximately 15 billion years of life left. The Earth was here long before "man" existed and will be here long after "man" is gone. The Earth is only going through it's normal environmental cycle. We are just here for the ride.
