Is Bob Barr the next best thing to Ron Paul? Ron Paul said that he?
can have a very positive effect on the campaign. http://blog.bobbarr2008.com/2008/06/12/ron-paul-barr-can-have-a-very-positive-effect-in-the-presidential-campaign/
"louiegirl" was kind enough to send this to me yesterday to show that "writing-in" Ron Paul basically is not allowed in most states. http://mfoster.com/misc/write-in_rules_2008.html
It appears Barr has most of Paul's beliefs on the issues, however, his history is not as "pure" as Paul's and he has just in recent years changed his mind on the war and the Patriot Act. Does anyone have any additional history on Barr? Any links? Thank you.

I agree with martinx0. While I'm sure that Bob Barr is a nice person, his voting record is less than impressive. Some have even called him a fraud and have pointed to an article in "The Atlanta Journal-Constitution" written by Cameron McWhirter and Megan Clarke on 5/18/08 as evidence of the claim. http://www.ajc.com/search/content/metro/stories/2008/05/18/barr.html
I'm considering voting for Chuck Baldwin. The only drawback with Dr. Baldwin is that his religious beliefs are a large part of his philosophy. Of course, that in no way means that he won't govern according to the Constitution, because I'm sure he will. I wonder, though, how the more libertarian leaning RP supporters would feel about him. I really admired the fact that Dr. Paul's attitude was one of letting his actions prove that he was a Christian. I am a Christian, and I'm conservative as far as my values and my personal beliefs and behavior. But, I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum as far as the lives/behavior of others. I do not feel the need to concern myself with the personal lives of consenting adults. I am most definitely libertarian in that I believe very strongly in "l mind my own business-please do the same."
If I had a more positive view of Bob Barr, the Libertarian party would have a definite advantage in one area, because the Constitution party is behind the Libertarian party in ballot access. The Libertarian party already has ballot status in many states. The LP will likely be on several state ballots that the CP is not.
I still may end up writing-in Ron Paul. I most definitely will not be voting for McCain or Obama.
DAR: "I think that if we really wanted him to after the convention, he would, don't you? Unless he has decided to endorse someone?" I think so also.
I'm looking into getting RP registered for write in in Ca, although I suspect I won't be able to.
Bob Barr might be next best, but he is sort of like the 'typical politician' in that what he is saying today has little basis in his voting record. (For example, he voted for the Iraq war and the Patriot Act.) However, he has been fighting those lately, and Ron Paul considers him an ally. He doesn't seem to have an overall noninterventionist platform, which may appeal to some RP didn't appeal to - but I suspect those will be voting for McCain, in any event.
If Baldwin would let RP on his ticket (at the top, natch) Ron Paul could decide to run after Sept 2. It was pretty clear from the webcast Constitution party convention that Chuck Baldwin was being nominated in good part BECAUSE he was a RP supporter, and the nomination introduction was as much about Ron Paul as Chuck Baldwin.
After Ron Paul, I'm pretty stuck on sincerity. Chuck Baldwin has more of a religious approach to issues, but respects the Constitution as a true RP supporter.
I simply haven't decided, and I guess, to some extent, I just haven't let go yet.

You know, getting registered for write in isn't much, but it takes his agreement, at least in CA. This is for President, so a lot of state election laws don't apply (supremacy clause). We have until approx. October to get him registered for write in and all he'd have to do is sign this paper:
I believe that Ron Paul has only suspended his run for President.
Has not released his delegates, only suspended the campaigning phase of his... campaign (?).. Still in the race..
ITS NOT OVER campaign legally closed down
Conference call with Dr. Paul yesterday in Harrisburg Well, yesterday here in PA, we had a meeting in Harrisburg. It was attended by the state leaders, delegates and alternates, county coordinators, etc. The purpose was to organize the state "chapter" of the CFL. We had a conference call with Dr. Paul and Carol. We were allowed to submit questions for Dr. Paul and Carol. The 2 main questions being what was Carols' recipe for Choc. Chip cookies. Her answer, " Oh, you must mean the ones from the red checked cookbook." Gotta love her. Dr. Pauls first question was would he accept the nomination if he could get the majority in 5 states. He said yes of course, but it would be up to us to convince other delegates in the "mini caccuses" before the convention to nominate him. If only for the sake of fairness and allowing him the opportunity to speak. He has only suspended the campaign, he has not withdrawn from the race, he has not released his delegates. Big difference. In his usaual fashion he is again letting it up to us to do our thing. So, it's not over. Our group believes we can do this with AK, MT, ID, NV, WA to name some. The conversation lasted 15-20 minutes and the good Dr. was on his game. We did tape the conversation I'll see if I can find out if it's posted anywhere. In other bussiness we had a very productive meeting. We came from all over the state, all walks of life, all ages, all party affilations. We will be called, Pennsylvania Campaign for Liberty. We will be an umbrella organization under the CFL. The first order to vote was we will be a non-partisan group. We elected a chair, vice chair, and a steering commitee. The State organization will advise and communicate with the county organizations. We adopted a mission statement, goals and strategies. We will meet quarterly. Liberty is alive and well in PA, and the convention is still over 2 months away. My Freinds, it's not over.
No Bob Barr is not the best thing instead of Ron Paul. What we as True and concerned Americans can do is to educate the people in general. We can bring Ron Paul's message to the People. No one can stand in ron Paul's shoes for he is the only politician who has consistently voted his principles and has not waffled and changed his ideas because the corporations or the lobbyists want something that will be harmful to us Americans.
Ron Paul is the only politician in the 21st century and also the 20th century who has consistently voted to support the ideas and principles of the US Constitution.
How we can make a difference is by bringing Ron Paul's message to the American Public even if it has to be by woed of mouth at a grassroots level.
For example Ron Paul wants to get rid of the Federal Reserve and the IRS which will free us from our debt money and being tax slaves and in this way we can run our country the way the constitution meant it to be run with freedom and justice and liberty for all. this means not having to pay ever increasing amounts of taxes and seeing the banks destroy our standard of life by our constantly having to pay bacl money with interest. the constitution says congress shall coin money and set the value thereof. This means that enough money will be made for people to live and to take out a mortgage at 0% interest. Imagine all the moey a homeowner would save on paying a 30 year mortgage at 0% interest instead of 7.63 % percent adjustable mortgage and cause us to have to wrk two jobs and now a husband and wife both must work in order to live. Years ago it was possible for a man to buy a house with one job and eventually pay off his house without haivng to send his wife to work. So if we get Ron pauls' message out and educate the people then maybe in time the people will see how evil this system has become.
Imagine being able to keep all your money and not have to pay income taxes but the govt could raise money to run itself by tariffs and by a sales tax but not enslaving us and stealing our moeny from our hard earned work.
Eventually when enough people jear the right message and enough people see how they are victims to a worthless banking system that is making our money worhtless by increasing the price of everything and not increasing our salaries. Then I think there will be a massive uproar and a demand to return to the ways of the constitution which ourforefathers wrote to preserve our freedom form enslavement to the bankers and the elite rulers who care nothing for the people.
When we are finally able to gix our election system and tryuly know if the votes are being counted properly and ignoring the same tired old politiicans of Democrats or Republicans who just carry on the status quo of cheating the people of a real honest and fair election and demanding that only people like Ron Paul can run someone who honors the constitution and not see out the country whether it be a Bush or Gore in 2000 or a Bush and Kerry in 2004 or a McCain/ Obama choice in 2008.
There is no real difference to the Republican or Democratic pary they are just a right wing or a left wing on the same eagle. Each wing performs the same function it makes the eagle fly. The same way that each wing of the business Party (Republicrats or Demicans) makes the system function in Washington D.C. withut any real and constitutional change for the people.
The above link is a must see about our elections are rigged. Wathc the complete 81 minute documentary.
I really wouldn't put my trust on Barr for many reasons. He is also a corrupt politician, but on a low scale level. It's like saying he is the waaay lesser of evils. He is a great man and very humble, but when it comes to the voting record, it is a bit disturbing. Nonetheless, I will vote Ron Paul over Barr, but I would also vote Barr over McCain and Obama any day. Take care.
