I got hit by a car on my bike. I have road rash on my face. How do I prevent it from scarring?
The abrasions on my face are not deep, however I am nervous that it may scar. What is the best method to reduce the likelihood of scars? I've been using Neosporin. Is there anything else I should be doing?

Put Vitamin E on the marks. Since they are not deep, the scarring won't be as bad as it could be. Go to your local pharmacy or Walmart and buy Vitamin E gel-caps in the vitamin aisle. Puncture the caplets with a pin and squeeze out the jelly inside and rub it on your face. Do this at least once a day. They also have specific medicine designed to reduce scarring, like Mederma, but I don't know how well they work.
Aloe vera. Neosporin will keep it from getting infected, but it won't prevent scarring. I got second degree burns on my forearm once (boiling oatmeal- zigged when I should have zagged) and I cut leaves from my aloe plant, split them down the middle, laid them on the wound, and wrapped gauze around them. I put fresh ones on daily, and I have absolutely no scarring whatsoever. Now, you can't very well wear leaves on your face, but I recommend that you buy a couple of aloe plants (they are cheap and easy to find) and apply the juice liberally to the affected area. It dries (unlike Vitamin E, which stays greasy forever) and will protect and heal the damage. Keep doing it until your face is completely healed- don't be tempted to stop just because it starts to look better. You can buy aloe vera gel in a bottle, but fresh works better. Just break off a stalk and squeeze out the amount you need. I get angry when doctors tell you that scarring is inevitable- they just don't like you to use cheap natural remedies. Good luck!
Yes. U should ask your Dr for a little something called MEDERMA. It is used to get rid of scars and is VERY effective. Once the scab comes off or the cut heals you can start applying it to the marks but only like 3x's a day. Also try coco-butter lotion! Hope this helps. And look up Mederma on google
Scars are likely to hyperpigment (get real dark) when they are fresh, so they need to be protected.
After the scabs come off, use a high SPF sunscreen EVERY day. Massage any scars with some cream (Vitamin E, cocoa butter ... what counts is the massaging).
