This morning, my collegue, who's not too bright, said she heard that Obama wants to solve the deficit by putting all federal employees on minimum wage.
This, of course, is absurd, but I would like to know which propaganda mechanism is spreading this nonsense.

It's still lower than the minimum wage in the 1970s and 80s after you adjust for inflation. If you consider that back then gas was around a dollar and the min.wage was about $3.10 then it should be well over $10/hour now. The minimum wage now is $6.55 and NO ONE works for that unless they are down south and living in a shack. I'm a business owner and in ten years I've never paid less than $8/hour. Most people who work min wage do not get 40 hours a week at work and often have to work a second job where their overtime is paid at normal time. Try to live on $6.55 hour on 25 hours a week and need a car to get to work. Even at 50 hours a week, that is less than $300/week after taxes. I think anyone who pays a minimum of $12/hour or more for their lowest paid worker should be able to have a government licensed sign that says "We Pay a Living Wage" in their window. Then let the consumers decide if it's worth the extra $1 per shopping trip to have competent help.

The GS pay-scale is woefully unrepresentative of mainstream America-
I know a fella (rents from my mother in law) that is in his late 60's, a GS employee most of his adult life, he makes $84,000
annually (I've seen his W-2), guess what he does?
He is a furniture mover, not in administration, he actually gets paid to move desks from one building to another. He will make more in one month of retirement pay than most do for 6 months and it grows everyday that he puts off retirement.
In my opinion, $300 hammers and outrageous wages are a problem at the goverment level.

LOL . There is a pretty funny whispering campaign going on. By far the funniest is an insinuation that Obama is either a gay serial killer, or had some hand in the death of 3 gay men in his church. I find the level of desperation quite amusing.
