Does Obama want to put all GS employees on minimum wage?
This morning, my collegue, who's not too bright, said she heard that Obama wants to solve the deficit by putting all federal employees on minimum wage.
This, of course, is absurd, but I would like to know which propaganda mechanism is spreading this nonsense.

He/She had to have just been making that up....or they heard a joke on Leno, Letterman...etc. That can't even be made to look like a good point.

It's still lower than the minimum wage in the 1970s and 80s after you adjust for inflation. If you consider that back then gas was around a dollar and the min.wage was about $3.10 then it should be well over $10/hour now. The minimum wage now is $6.55 and NO ONE works for that unless they are down south and living in a shack. I'm a business owner and in ten years I've never paid less than $8/hour. Most people who work min wage do not get 40 hours a week at work and often have to work a second job where their overtime is paid at normal time. Try to live on $6.55 hour on 25 hours a week and need a car to get to work. Even at 50 hours a week, that is less than $300/week after taxes. I think anyone who pays a minimum of $12/hour or more for their lowest paid worker should be able to have a government licensed sign that says "We Pay a Living Wage" in their window. Then let the consumers decide if it's worth the extra $1 per shopping trip to have competent help.

The GS pay-scale is woefully unrepresentative of mainstream America-
I know a fella (rents from my mother in law) that is in his late 60's, a GS employee most of his adult life, he makes $84,000
annually (I've seen his W-2), guess what he does?
He is a furniture mover, not in administration, he actually gets paid to move desks from one building to another. He will make more in one month of retirement pay than most do for 6 months and it grows everyday that he puts off retirement.
In my opinion, $300 hammers and outrageous wages are a problem at the goverment level.

LOL . There is a pretty funny whispering campaign going on. By far the funniest is an insinuation that Obama is either a gay serial killer, or had some hand in the death of 3 gay men in his church. I find the level of desperation quite amusing.
OBAMA 08 !!!

Our deficit will be solved when people stop voting for people who want to spend freely with our money
This nation has held debt since Andrew Jackson, who was the last president to have our nation completely Debt Free.

yeah your co-worker is not to bright..or just doing what alot of others are doing and just making things up because they dont support the man. No Obama plans to Provide Additional Tax Rebates to American Workers: The economy has continued to weaken significantly, despite congressional action to provide immediate tax rebates to American consumers. Stimulus: $20 billion.
Establish a $10 billion Foreclosure Prevention Fund: Given the downturn in the economy, Obama is calling for immediate creation of his Foreclosure Prevention Fund that will dramatically increase emergency pre-foreclosure counseling, and will help families facing foreclosure to responsibly refinance their mortgages or sell their homes. Obama’s plan will not help speculators, people buying vacation homes or people that falsely represented their incomes. It is meant to help responsible homeowners through this difficult period. Stimulus: $10 billion.
Provide $10 billion in Relief for State and Local Governments Hardest-Hit by the Housing Crisis to Prevent Cuts in Vital Services: Because of the housing crisis and the weakening economy, many state and local governments are facing significant revenue shortfalls. Barack Obama believes that in the areas hardest-hit by the housing crisis we should provide immediate, temporary funding to state and local governments so that the decline in property values does not cause them to slash critical public services and cut vital infrastructure spending. Stimulus: $10 billion.
Extend and Expand Unemployment Insurance: Barack Obama believes we must extend and strengthen the Unemployment Insurance (UI) program to address the needs of the long-term unemployed, who currently make up nearly one-fifth of the unemployed and are often older workers who have lost their jobs in manufacturing or other industries and have a difficult time finding new employment. Expanding UI is one of the most effective ways to combat economic turmoil; every dollar invested in UI benefits results in $1.73 in economic output. Obama is calling for a temporary expansion of the UI program for those who have exhausted their current eligibility. Stimulus: $10 billion.
and thats just some of what he has plans to do
