Why is smoke coming in from the steering wheel?

I have a 93 Pontiac Bonneville, and last night while driving, I noticed that I smelled a burning smell. This morning while I started up the car, I instantly smelled the burning smell and noticed white smoke! What is happening? I need honest answers. Thanks so much!

Electrical problem. I would strongly suggest that you get your automobile looked at by an technician. If you're not careful your car could catch on fire. By what you have explained it seems as if you have an electrical short somewhere on your dashboard. Be very careful and of the drive vehicle directly to wherever you're going to get serviced.

It can be some extra grease burning/melting on the slip ring, and once 'smoked' then that clears it up. Upsetting, but not a problem.

So keep an eye on it; if it was a puff of smoke and now it is fine then good.

Something electrical is burning up in there.

it sounds like two wires are touching and they are shorting and burning up your wireing.
