I think with all the scholarships that are available anyone who wants to study hard enough could go to law or medical school. Not everyone is cut out for it. If you want to have a higher paying job but don't . what is your reason?

Everyone has the opportunity to make more here. Some make poor choices, some choose a job they love, but maybe does not pay much like the teacher who posted a commented above said. Some people don't chose to go into a profession that they got their degree in. I see it happen all the time. 4 years of college, major in history and then work at Starbucks. What gives??? Point is people sometimes play a huge role in why they do or don't make the big bucks. When I finally do get to the big bucks someday I sure don't want to pay more taxes because of it. Why should I have to pay for those who just didn't care enough. I work really hard to succeed and don't want to have a punishment went I hit my success. I earned it!

Not everyone can make 250000 dollars. It is simply a fact. In fact if everyone made 250000 it would only be worth about 30-40000 dollars of current money.
Do you make 250,000 dollars? Do your parents? Does everyone in your family?
When the median annual personal income is $32,000, what basis do you have for saying that everyone can make $250000? You don't have any. Everyone should just do well.
The fact is that people don't need more than $250000 a year. They don't need more than $50000 a year. The idea that it requires millions of dollars to incentivize people to do well is ridiculous. If the amount CEO's were paid were only twice as high as average, the CEO's would still be of similar quality. So, when some people have barely enough to do well for their families there is no sense in letting them keep the same percentage of their income as the poor keep. 20% for the rich hurts a lot less than 20% for the poor.
How can you justify people making $3 million a year when some people can't pay for their kids to go to school?

I am a person without a college degree that makes over 100K a year. I made much more than that in 2007-2008. Close to 250K. I like making money. The more I make, the more I like it and what it can do.
This past year, I met an Air Force E-6 that does not make that much money, but he was happy of the fact that he will retire a multimillionaire after 20 years of service. He is just getting his money at the end. I continue to search for a job that makes more money.
Just remember, cash is king.
And, I know the old saying, "money is the root of all evil" and "money can not buy you happiness"
Only people without money say those things.

i'm not a bullshitter and not all that interested in blood and guts nor dealing with people 12 hours+ a day. I respect the doctors and fully believe they earned their money. Many who make 250k + did not put in the effort that doctors did and that is not fair, but life seldom is.
Also, there are many who put in similar efforts at least in their studies and will never see a doctors salary - ie PhD scientists and engineers
at the end of the day our tax system is what works and keeps our society from collapsing. It is the type of system that is universal among first world nations. A fair tax simply does not work and would lead to a failed state.

I work a job that is more family-friendly, also more stable. I've made six figures and make slightly less now. It's worth the tradeoff - I get to spend time with my kids, and to play and coach soccer. I coach my daughter's boys team (they kicked us out of the girls league when we won 18 in a row and kind of abused the other teams) and we took sole possession of 1st place in the boy's league today with an 8-0 win.
I couldn't spend the time I spend with my kids and my team if I worked a job that paid that much. But the choice, yes that's mine.
