what do you think would be a good first car. something under 4 or 5 grand.
and not like a huge truck or something.

Japanese cars are very dependable even at higher mileage. My top picks are Nissan, Toyota, and Honda. They will last for years. I still drive my 1984 Nissan truck at almost 400k miles.
