I have a 51 buick and last week, it wouldn't start. so I put it on the charger and it worked. next day-dead. charged it again and it started. Now, a week later, it won't start even on the charger. It doesn't even turn over or click. The battery has been charging for a few hours and nothing. I get one click, no fast pased clicking. Weird huh, Please help!

I had the same exact problem with my 87 Cadillac I replaced the battery still didn't do it. Replaced the celinoid nothing, it turned out it was the starter itself. Replaced that and presto. Do all the basics(clean terminals,make sure all wires are tight and make sure all bolts are tight especially on the starter cuz on some cars that is your ground.) Good Luck!!!!

Cable could be rotted under the insulation. Cell on the battery may be dead. Starter Solenoid my be shot. Maybe a bad connection at the terminals even.
Start with the easiest and cheapest. Clean the terminals. Try charging the battery when disconnected. Soak the cable ends in a solution of baking soda and water to remove corrosion. Check the cable at the clamp.
My guess is the battery will not take the charge and need to be replaced.
If it does, jump the solenoid to see if the starter turns over. You do that by crossing the terminals with a screwdriver.

A defective battery will not accept a charge or a jump. You can try removing the terminals and cleaning them and battery posts. If charger has an amp meter on it take a look when charging. If the bat. is dead the amps will be zero or maybe 3 or4.

Sounds like your battery is at the end of its life or the starter is at the end of its life. See if you can jump it with another car and then drive to a shop and have them do a charging system diagnostic on it and this will check the battery, starter, and alternator.

nice car ! sounds like the battery is,nt holding charge. probably a dead cell.
