Pharmaceutical companies don't have enough money already, so psychiatrists invent new illnesses so they can prescribe more drugs and make more money.
Edit: I'm talking solely about mental illness (since this is the psych section) rather than viral/bacterial illnesses.

to make money
because the already existing illnesses become immune to the cures and mutate into something new

Because pathogens are constantly developing some new mutation or other, that makes them resistant to the medicine that would have killed them before. So then the scientists have to start making new medicine. It goes on and on.
