Michael Jackson, because when I was born in '89 I didn't really even know he died... Or who he was.
I asked my dad this yesterday and he said "who's Kurt Cobain?" and I tried explaining, telling him the band he was in, the girl he was with and their popular songs. He still had no clue (and he does have good taste in music, with a variety). So I'd have to say MJ's death was more surprising.
I wasn't really a huge fan of either of them, though. (but it does make me sad)

Kurt Cobain's didnt take over T.V. Michael Jackson's death has taken over all the major Networks. Plus, Cobain was a drug addict and everybody knew it. People didnt like the fact that Cobain died, but I dont think nobody was a surprised.

Michael Jackson because it was so unexpected and sudden. It has shocked the world. Everyone is talking about Micheals death today whilst with Kurt Cobain it was just his fans rather than everyone in the world.

They were both surprising but I'm going to lean more on MJ. Everyone around the world knew who he was and not so much with Kurt Cobain. I think it's pretty sad than surprising with MJ because when he was alive, everyone was just so mean and talking trash about him always. About him being a molester and doing all that stuff to himself. Now all of a sudden he's everyone's icon? C'mon give me a break. They should have never been mean to him...if you think that a celebrity is an icon, then it should always be that way no matter what.
