When will a pending payment i have on Pay pal be cleared so i can tell them to send it to me on a check?

I sold something on ebay and the seller sent me the money, on my paypal account it says the payment is pending, how do i get it to no be pending so i can put it in my account balance and request a check, how long will it be pending for?
