3 herniated discs and spine instability?

I asked this question the other day.  I hurt my neck and herniated 3 discs.  I also have bone spurs, arthritis and neck instability.  My surgeon wanted to fuse my neck especially because of the instability, but my workers comp in Washington State denied my surgery.  I am just as hurt as I was when I was injured last November and in the last month things have taken a turn for the worst.  I had to quit working.  I want the surgery.  Is there anyone out there with the same condition that has eventually gotten better without surgery?  Keep in mind I am 53 years old.  Don't tell anyone, I am actually pretty hot still...lol

its very difficult to accept a situation like this, you probably have the discs very near the central nervous system and when you exert or sometimes just twist that can be enough for them to touch the nerve and give you excruciating pain. The tricks that i have learnt are stretching the spine like traction helps me a lot, lots of ice packs and strong anti inflammatory drugs. i can now recover to 'normal' in three days!! Much better than originally 4-6 wks! to avoid this you must always bend your knees, never lift anything to heavy and /or twist. All this is fine until you forget and bend over, at the first sign of pain remember ice,anti inflammatory and try to take your weight off by hanging from your arms,gently at first make sure it works for you. this takes pressure from the discs allowing them to move back into place.
