Neck Injury that won't get better?

I herniated 3 discs in my neck. It was an on the job injury. I have a lot of underlying issues in my neck that I knew nothing about before the injury. Degenerative disc disease, arthritis and bone spurs. All these issues have caused instability in my cervical spine. My neurosurgeon thinks I need a spinal fusion with plates and screws. My workers comp in Washington state denied the surgery, because their was no disc pressing on a nerve. I feel that is the least of my problems. My neck is changed forever, I know it. I have excruciating pain in my shoulder an arm all the time. Is surgery the only answer? I would do it today. What do you think? Please pray for me, it is ruining my marriage.

Update:

Thanks Austin. I know I have had those shocks too. They gave me a little more strength in my arm, but only lasted a day or two. Never have tried acupuncture. Pain just effects every part of your life. I am so sorry you have to go through this.

I know what you are going through. I hurt my back almost two years ago, and live with the pain every day.

They want to fuse disks in my back as well but I wont let them. I am only 26 years old and really into sports so I don't want to lose any mobility. I have tried chiropractors and different physical therapy with little success. What has worked the best for me so far... is some machine (and I don't know what it is called) that the physical therapist has that sends electric shocks into my muscles. I do it twice a week and it seems to be helping. Also acupuncture has helped, though it is kind of expensive.
