It seems hard to believe that both sides are being rational about this. The democrats are proposing a plan that they say will be beneficial, whereas the republicans claim that in fact the plan will wreak all sorts of havoc on our country. So, why the disparity? How can either democrats be so completely delusional, or republicans be so completely paranoid?

Neither side is being rational. The way the new National Health Care legislation is being set up, costs will not go down, savings will not be gained, and patients will not have the access they demand when the need arises.
When I was shopping to buy a house in 2002, I was shown a house as old as mine was, same number of bedrooms and bathrooms, same square footage, and same accoutrements. Only the location was different. I wasn't prejudiced in favor of the neighborhood, so I asked myself: "Self, why would you buy a house just like the one you're selling, and pay $68,000 more for it?" Needless to say, I didn't buy it.
That's the question that we should all be asking ourselves: "Self, why would you buy a program just like the one you're getting rid of, and pay oodles more for it?"
If we don't want the federal government to buy every hospital and clinic in the country, and put all the staff on salary, why are we thinking that something like a halfway measure will save us any money? Isn't the point of some form of universal health care to save money and reduce costs for the majority of us? This is the reason for all the outcry in favor of health care reform, isn't it? More and more people are denied access to the medical care they need by reason of the price/cost.
If we are going to keep the present health insurance infrastructure in place, and not go directly to a publicly funded infrastructure, why don't we just put all poor people on Medicaid or Medicare, and subsidize private insurance for those who are not poor but have no access to health insurance for other reasons, like preexisting conditions?
It seems to me that a lot of people haven't thought this through yet, and many of those have been elected to public office.

It really isn't a Republican - Democrat thing. It is a left wing Democrat - moderate Democrat thing, they don't need the Republicans to push this through. A lot of Democrats are not comfortable with this power grab by the Federal government..

fairly the alternative is real. The Obama so called well-being care plan will bankrupt the united states of america. The Republicans have wisely pointed that out. additionally the Republicans have wisely stated that Obama used bribes to individual Congresspersons to get them to vote for the bill. without those bribes the Obama so called well-being care bill does no longer have exceeded. .
