Who is against animal cruelty and actually does something about it?

You've all seen them here in Y!A over and over again. People who post a question that asks "Who is against animal cruelty" and usually thumbs down anyone who says the slightest thing against their little rant. Someone who wants animal abusers to be punished with life in prison for kicking a puppy for instance, who then hears how someone doesn't like animal cruelty but still eats meat.

You know the posts...we've all seen them.

Well I'm actually putting it on the line. I want people to put their money where their mouths are. Who out there is against animal cruelty and actually does more than sitting at the computer at O-dark-thirty typing about how meat is murder, fur is murder and how someone who leaves a dog outside in the rain (regardless of whether or not the dog has shelter) needs to be in jail becoming someones best friend in that "special" way.

For example, I go to the animal shelter and I offer my time and lend the shelter some free assistance. Does anyone else out there do something similar?

A teacher that i had in high school stole her neighbors dog before she moved because he abused it.
my neighbor had dogs that he kept in his barn that he never let out and my mom called an animal shelter or something to investigate. no more dogs there.

A black lab and her two large puppies showed up in my back yard so we took them in and fed them and called the humane society to get them. theres been a few cases of lost dogs come through that we didnt ignore.

I fixed the only male cat at the farm i work at so that we could finally end the needless death of kittens.. unfortunately another male showed up. i cant afford to fix them all.

My boyfriend gets his pets from shelters.

This isnt exactly stopping animal cruelty but its saving animals nonetheless.

I milk cows and we spoil them :P they are the best treated cows i know of.

I do wish anyone that puts an animal in any pain or neglect them, goes to jail! I've always been an animal advocate. I do go to dog shelters and offer my services when i get a chance to. I work and go to school full time so it's extremly difficult to find the time. But I do go, i love animals sometimes i do more than humans. They are sooo innocent and can't take care of themselves. I think anyone that abuses an animal in any way should be gone to prison, and for long-term. It breaks my heart when i hear some cruel and horrific stories and i pretend i didn;t hear it. My dog is like my own child, i treat it like family, I cannot understand how someone can hurt dogs or cats in any way. I feel the same as well when owners leave their pets outside in the cold/heat, or without food/water or with any attention. And I hate the fact that Breeders make so much puppies just for the profit. There are way too many homeless and needed dogs that are caged up that need a home. Its so ridiculous!

All animals I get are from an SPCA. (except my bearded dragon)

Can't really afford to donate my money or my time. Also never had an animal shelter nearby. I have rescued and hand raised two 10-day old pups whose mother had died. Also raised a baby squirrel and let him go. Not sure how old he was but he was still drinking milk. I took him to the park and he climbed trees and stuff and he'd come back. Then one day I just put him outside and closed the door and he took off like he knew it was time.

I'll make a few confessions though.. I don't take my animals to the vet for yearly check up. When they get sick I take care of them best I can and when I decide it's out of my hands then I'll go to the vet. My bearded dragon does have a heating rock inside his tank and he sure seems smart enough to get off it when it's too hot. (Sometimes I'll cover it with sand just to make sure.) I also don't think animals should be treated as kids. I think some people take it to the point where it can be just as bad as neglecting them. I love my dog and take care of him best I can and would be devastated if something terrible happened to him, but I also keep in mind he is a dog. And he needs to be treated just as another animal would treat him if he was in the wild. I'm confident if he gets lost in the woods he'd be able to survive with out me.

I absolutely hate animal cruelty and such. This is why I volunteer at a horse rescue and at my local animal shelter.
