When will this cruelty against animals stop? Your thoughts & sad story inside. ->?

This is one of those stories that will make you shake your head in disbelief and test your level of empathy for others. Two 11-year-old boys in Las Vegas, are on house arrest after being charged with seven counts of animal cruelty. Their confinement includes a GPS to monitor their every move until their next court hearing. The boys are accused of throwing rocks at a cat as she gave birth and stoning to death each of her six newborn kittens.

Judge William Voy, who presided over the boy’s first court appearance, reported that in the nine years he has served on the bench, “he has never seen something like this.”

The boys, whose identities are not being released due to their age, were booked into the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center after an extensive investigation was completed by both the police and animal control.

The crime was reported at the apartment complex where the boys live when residents started to wonder why the kids were throwing stones against a building. Investigators later determined the boys were stoning a mother cat while she was giving birth and continued to throw rocks at each of her kittens as they were born.

The kittens were rushed to a local veterinary hospital by animal control officers. By that time, the mother cat had run off and there is no news about her health.

“A total of six came to us,” said Haven Animal Hospital Vet Technician Patrick Harp. “Two of them were actually deceased on arrival. Another one we had to put down shortly after it got here.” Later the remaining kittens died of their injuries.

In court, attorneys for the two boys did not admit any fault and pointed to a psychological test taken by each child which showed both to be at “low-risk” for animal abuse. The lawyer also pointed out that neither boy has a history of delinquency.

Gina Greisen from Nevada Voters for Animals and author of Cooney’s Law which makes the intentional killing of an animal a felony in the state, was surprised when she saw the boys in person. “One kid, his face was so angelic looking, I was really shocked that they could do this,” she said.

If convicted of the heinous crime, the boys will face a maximum of 30 days in detention.

The ordeal has left animal lovers reeling over the senseless death and asking how two young boys could be so cruel to innocent animals. An article written by Dr. Joni E. Johnston, Psy. D. and printed in “Psychology Today,” addressed the subject.

That can't be stopped, you can't control every kid and these two have to be assessed by a Psycoogist to see why such angelic looking kids can act that way.

At a guess it will have somethng to do with the homes but without interviewing the parents it is even impossible to know if it is from home problems or schools, You tube or some other source.

You can't just say it was because of this, or that as a first comment, it has to be investigated by the right people best qualified to come to a conclusion.

It saddens me and makes me cry about this senseless act during a wonderful moment of a cat giving birth. How cruel can people be. Where were the parents? Kids too bad these days learn violence at such a young age. Our society is so many ways has gone down the drain and animal abuse is so prevalent in this day and age. When will ever stop. We need to educate children at a young age that animals have rights too and should be treated with love and respect.

Oh my gosh, that gave me the chills to read that.

"One kid, his face was so angelic looking, I was really shocked that they could do this".... and "attorney for the two boys did not admit any fault and pointed to a psychological test taken by each child which showed both to be at 'low-risk' for animal abuse"....

Those two quotes combined is what gave me the chills. When children can look so innocent, and yet do something so heinous, that means they feel no guilt or shame. That means, they have no sense of wrong/right. That means, that sometime later in thier lives they may commit a more serious crime or against a human rather than an animal, and again, seemingly feel no guilt or shame, and still feel no sense of wrong/right. THAT means, the child/children may be PSYCHOPATHIC, and destined for lives of crime or institutionalism.... Scary to be able to see it so young...11 years old....ouch.

Too bad the names of these serial killers in training were not released to the media.I'm sure these kids are bullies at school as well. These boys know right from wrong or at least they should. Thirty days seems like a slap on the wrist. At what age are these boys expected to learn to show respect for life?Their lawyer said that the boys did not have a history of delinquency.I believe that these boys are no stranger to animal abuse and it is more likely than not the boys were never caught before. Their angelic faces hid their true nature. What does a serial killer look like........exactly like your next door neighbour The parents of these boys should be on notice that they need to better monitor their kids and what they are doing..

I'm on my back Porch Scooter, feeding critters, and a momma barn cat has brought me a new born gift she cannot care for. This story caused me to throw up, and no offense to you, but I'm sorry I know. What else I know however is that this psychopathic behavior will stay with them and escalate.

I say stone the the defense attorneys first, then if not convicted I can only hope they spend the rest of their lives in regret and therapy. Age is not an excuse, but sadly, no life seems sacred to some. Sobs.

That is really sad, and I hope the law will be even stricter, I hope those boys stay in the detention center for a very long time. If they don't get the help they need they will be doom by the time they are adults and will think they can go out and kill any animals or a human being and think it is funny.

This is so sick! I wonder what their parents are like??

What type of a home and a planet are thes echildren from? Parents must hold accountable in this case as why did they leave the children unattended. This case clearly shows that children can learn violence from a very young age. They must have been playing with very violent video games or watching violent stuff on T V. The parents must have unknowingly created a very violent environment for these kids.

Extreme cruelty to animals can be an indicator of a sociopathic personality. The violence and cruelty grows with each successive act. Those boys are candidates for much greater crimes and they could well have the ability to convince themselves that nothing they've done is wrong.

I'm very sad that 30 days is the maximum charge. If an 11 year old kid is stoning kittens to death, what will they do when they're older?

    Angelic looking.

    Animal cruelty.

Never been caught doing anything wrong before.

Three scores on the Psychopath Score Sheet I am sorry to say.

It cannot be stopped because they were born that way.....

Gut wrenching I know as is the certainty that they will go on to bigger and better horrors....
