Why does safari not work even though I have internet connection?

I'm on a mac and its is very common for safari to stop working. It tells me that the server cannot be found after trying to load for a very long time. This all happens when I have all five bars of internet and all my ichat, and utorrent is working. How come safari is breaking down?

probably are working offline. check to see if the work offline box is checked
