Why is my Sims 2 game always crashing?

I've been playing Sims 2 for a while, and I'm used to the random crashing. But now I cant even play because every time I try to start it up it crashes before I can play. I never have anything running other than the game. I even uninstalled and reinstalled the game, but this time I only put one expansion pack. I don't even attempt to create a family because it NEVER works, but now when I open up a neighborhood the mouse does its thing then just disappears. I hear the CD working and when it crashes the CD stops making noises. I've literally closed and reopened the game 20 times. Please helpp!

If you have any downloads, it could be that one corrupts another and it crashes the game that way.
But if you are just running the plain game, there might be something that interferes with the game on your computer.
So I'm sorry that doesn't help solve your problem, but I have had the same problem. Except I had downloads and once I got rid of them it worked great.
