It is not in the Bible, and Jesus never alluded to there being such a place. Since the hell of eternal torment doesn't exist, why would a purgatory? When a person is truly saved that's it. The unsaved will simply die, end of story.

The fact is that Jesus was speaking at times of being thrust into that Gehenna long before one's physical death. We have numerous examples of those in that first century Jerusalem who were living as if in a fiery torment weeping and gnashing their teeth upon Jesus and any who spoke the message of Christ.

Compare the thought of "Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched" (Mark 9:44, 46. 48) to this statement: Revelation 9:6 "And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them."

The Rich Man of Luke 16:19-31 is the composite body of kingly/priestly dominion stationed in that first century Jerusalem comparable to the body of Christ which is also about kingly/priestly dominion.

If there is a purgatory (if one insists on calling it that) then it is before a person's physical death. I do know that God is not about desiring to destroy anyone and and I know that he is able to reclaim some even out of that severe spiritually burnt situation.

I would encourage you to pursue this subject further. Many of the more mature JWs have a good grasp of it if you would like to consider their thoughts just to get some different perspectives. No, Jesus didn't confirm any reality of purgatory. Purgatory never existed. There was a place called "Paradise". But not that Jesus died and rose again, there is a heaven and a hell. So when you die you will go to one or the other depending on if you know the Lord....Show more

In the Bible, Sheol is referred as the "underworld". It is spilt into two portions (Gehenna and Abraham's Bosom). Abraham Bosom is a waiting place for the righteous who waiting the coming of the Messiah. Once Christ dies on the Christ and rose from the dead, the Old Testament saints go to heaven and there is no need for Sheol anymore.

According to the bible, If somebody died prior to Christ rising from the dead and were righteous, they went to Sheol (Abraham's Busom) and dwelled there until the Messiah redeemed them...Show more
