On One Hand: EPA Has Approved Use of Frontline
After research, the Environmental Protection Agency has approved fipronil, the insecticide contained in Frontline, for use in pregnant cats. This pesticide has been approved for use in treating and preventing fleas, ticks and chewing lice. Frontline accumulates in the skin and hair follicles of treated cats. It is then released over one month.

On the Other: Some Pregnant Cats May be Allergic
Frontline can cause an allergic reaction in some cats, including those who are pregnant. If a pregnant cat licks the spot where the pesticide was applied, she may drool before it dries completely. She may also develop temporary itching and redness at the application site.

Bottom Line
The EPA has declared Frontline to be safe for pregnant and nursing cats. Both non-pregnant and pregnant cats can develop allergic reactions, skin irritation and redness at the site of application. The EPA has described side effects as mild. Frontline affects the nervous systems of parasites, stopping them before they bite pregnant cats.
