1. Washington, because he stepped down from office in 1797 as established that no person is more important than the Republic. This would become the greatest strength of the American democracy.
2. Alexander Hamilton for establishing a modern treasury and monetary policy. he also wrote the Federalist papers (now the NY Post) to get ratification of the Constitution from the states.
3. Thomas Jefferson, while he was the father of the Declaration of Independence he heavily borrowed from the works of others, most notably George Mason.
4. James Madison while called the Father of the Constitution the document was really the collective works of the Constitutional Convention. He did however work closely with Hamilton to get the Constitution approved.
5. John Marshall, his contribution was to establish the Supreme Court as the final arbiter for the nations laws and treaties.
Yes the order you list them is the order I would list them.
George Washington and Thomas Jefferson because George Washington helped win the revolutionary war and Thomas Jefferson helped write the decleration of independence.
Personally, I would rank them as follows: 1. Jefferson: Author of the declaration, founder of UVA, Third President. (Multiple accomplishments aside from the fact he spent himself into debt, fathered a child with his slaves, and prior to his death refused to free his slaves. 2. Madison: Father of the Constitution 3.Washington: Nation's First President 4. Marshall: Chief Justice 5. Hamilton: Department of Treasury
