Do I have to take my shoes out of my bag at the airport?

I know I have to take the shoes I'm wearing off before I go through the metal detector, but I have an extra pair of sneakers in my carry on bag. Do I have to unpack those, or can I just leave them in the bag?

Leave them in the bag. They go through the x-ray machine, which is all they want for all shoes.
