My dogs are working Border Collies. I do not enter them in conformation, they only run in USBCHA trials. They are not registered with AKC. I will have nothing to do with AKC, as many AKC breeders are ruining the Border Collie by breeding for looks, rather than brains. My dogs are only registered with The American Border Collie Assoc., a registry that promotes working dogs.
Not intending to hurt anyone's feelings, here, just my thoughts regarding AKC.

While Bobbie makes some good points about AKC clubs and certain breeds (I am still furious that the AKC let a fringe group form a club and sneak the Small Munsterlander into the FSS group, which the REAL breed club wouldn't allow-because they wanted to retain control over quality of dogs being bred), for the most part, people who participate in AKC events are the ones MOST dedicated to the preservation of their breeds, in my opinion. I would never throw a blanket accusation at the entire organization just because of some bad decisions made by a few.
