I grew up here and still live here and love it. Early mid october is a little cold but not too cold, USUALLY! I say usually because we have had snow in October before, and yes we did get a wicked bad snow storm once in October. Sometimes we have an october where it still feels like late spring early summer. You will like it though lots to do.

Try the freedom trail if you want to learn about the city. I took it as a kid and loved it. My bestfriend came to visit from NJ and we did the old towne trolly and that was the best because it was $20 to go on it, and you can get on and off all day.

If you get a chance walk by the charles river it is a nice site to see.

If you are lucky and the Red sox end up making it far in the playoffs you can go to fenway and get to see some of the players pull into the park to practice.

Also you can go to the top of the prudential and view the city from there. The

The weather in New England is very unpredictable. We've had everything in October ranging from a heat wave (by our standards, anyway) to a blizzard on Halloween in 2011. Just keep an eye on the weather report for when you plan on going. Have fun! :)

variable
it could be cold and damp or warm and dry. It varies greatly each year
average high will be in the 60s average low will be in the mid 40s
however, you will see some of the fall foliage, though mid to late October is peak foliage

IMia is pretty much pulling your leg. There never has been an October blizzard in Boston., Although occasionally there are snow flurries and in two years in the past 3 decades there has been measurable snows (once at the early date record of 10, October) they were only a couple of inches. Snows and biting daytime freezing cold pretty much hold off until late November or early December and in one recent year to (a late date record) of mid-January. However, by early/mid December the winter season 'noreaster type of storms have begun but in Boston they are almost always in the form of (soaking) rains.

The height of the foliage season is October 8 - 15 in central northern New England where you will find calendar scenes everywhere, and October 14 - 21 in similar areas of north-central MA/south central NH, and the Berkshires.

Unfortunately for packing purposes it could be anything from fairly warm to fairly cold.
