Hi, I have a Dell Optiplex GX60. It's fan recently stopped working for no apparent reason (no dust). I then bought another fan thinking it had just run its course, but this fan also does not work, the computer works fine except for the overheating without a fan. What could be wrong?
Thank you!

Could be the fan you have is faulty or are you sure its connected up properly .
search's online suggest your Dell Optiplex GX60 is a socket 478.
buy a socket 478 heat sink and fan.
turn off the computer, remove the power cable, then remove the old fan and heatsink, clean off any thermal paste that is left on the CPU, then apply some new thermal paste (that should come with the new heatsink, if it's pre applied you do not need to apply any). if you do not know how to apply the thermal paste, just search on youtube how to apply thermal paste, and 'how to replace socket 478 fan'
remember to plug the fan into the motherboard's CPU fan header.

There could be a problem with the Fan port. Clean the port and try connecting the fan again. Otherwise you can try updating the BIOS. Please find the link below to update the BIOS from support website.

1) Enter the Service Tag and press submit button. ( You can find the service tag at the bottom of the laptop on white sticker, it’s a seven digit alphanumeric code which ends with BS or number 1.) 2) Click on Drivers and Downloads. 3) Choose the Operating system. 4) Click on Bluetooth option and update the latest driver.

That fan was connected to one of the power cords and maybe that one is faulty. Move your fan power cord to one of the other power connectors That being said,it could be you bought a dead fan even though it is new..
odds are you got a faulty fan other had died and this just didnt get put together right so get another if that doesnt work well i got bad news it would be a motherboard problem
